Days Inn Historic or Hampton Inn-Bypass
 

Which of these hotels do you think would be better for 2 Adults and 2 children travelling this summer. Both seem nice, but the Hampton Inn offers a free breakfast, which could save time in the morning. Anyone know if one or the other is roomier?? Thanks for the help.

If you are talking about the two in Williamsburg (we have a bypass road in Wmsbg VA)- it is really a toss-up, the Hampton Inn may be more recent construction by a few years.

I think the hotels are PROBABLY equal - the Days Inn is nice & well maintained. If the prices are close then take the Hampton Inn, as breakfasts in Williamsburg area are not cheap -- there's no "diners", just many overprices "waffle houses" (not be be confused with "Waffle House", the brand) and "pancake" restaurants. Nearby both are a Golden Corral and a Cracker Barrel, but breakfast will set you back a bit at those too.

Thanks so much! I think you are right! Will reserve Hampton Inn. What other family type restaurants are nearby?? My family likes Golden Corral.

All within maybe a mile of the HamptonInn are also a DairyQueen, Pizzaria Uno, Gazebo (Pancakes) and Italian Restaurant (Milano?), IHOP, Jefferson Steak House, Manhattan Bagels. Just a bit further are Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, Red White & Blue?, OliveGarden, Red Lobster. Jefferson is a cut above the others, and of course something like DQ would not be for a "real" meal.

Yes, most of the chains have restaurants here but if you want to eat where the locals eat try: Pierces' BBQ, La Tolteca, Casa Maya, Paul's Deli, Colonial Restaurant (for breakfast)and Ukrop's Cafe.

Right you are, as usual, Birdie! I just thought they wanted the real-close restaurants. Pierce's: YES! And tho not fancy, I ALWAYS have a meal at Sals' by Victor, in the Williamsburg Shopping Center. There was a Mexican rest. across from Applebees last year, hope it's still there, as I'm probably coming down this weekend.

Casa Maya is right down the street if you want Mexican, but the best rated Chinese in town is right across the street in the KMart shopping center called Peking. They have a great buffet. Enjoy the 'burg.

The Mexican restaurant is still there. As a matter of fact, my husband commented last night that we need to try it. We passed it on our way to Outback. Thirty lashes for eating at a chain! If you go, let us know how it is.

Birdie - I've been to it last autumn. It was good, reasonably priced, and sure beat the chains. There's been a Mexican restaurant at the HowardJohnson on Bypass Rd ... is that any good? Something about that hotel itself creeps me out - there's never any cars there.

Let me plug another non-chain restaurant too (altho they do have multiple locations): Nawab (Indian) in a little strip mall on Monticello, across from Williamsburg Shopping Center. It seems this thread has been "hijacked", and is no longer about hotels!

Casa Maya on Bypass is very good. We're there almost every Fri. night. The hotel has been sold and I think has now closed down. Nawab has been spotty for me. I'll give it another shot. Also very good at times is Chez Trinh, Vietnamese, across the street. I'm heading over for lunch at Pekings buffet next Kmart. Haven't tried that before.
Just to get us back on track...mommybryant: Have you looked at the Residence Inn on Richmond Rd.? You can get a suite and free breakfast.

Thanks you guys! I am printing out this for future reference. I do enjoy eating with the locals. I can eat at the chains at home. I appreciate all your comments. I did check out the Residence Inn, however, it is unavailable for the time we will be there. I am just trying to find a place nearby that will be relaxing in the evenings during our down time. Will probably book the Hampton Inn due to its reputation and generous breakfast (which my husband likes). I have not heard anything negative to sway me there. Thanks again.
