Day trips from Spartanburg suggestions needed

We have planned a last minute trip for July 3-5th and will be staying in Spartanburg S C. We need some help getting suggestions for day trips from this base. We are going up to Asheville NC to tour the Biltmore gardens but after that I don't know what is worth driving to. We have never been in this general area so anything you can recommend would be great. Hope to come back in the fall when we will have more time.

Greenville, SC is a fantastic town. I was there two weeks ago and completely fell in love with it. Take a bike and ride the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Don't miss the Sat morning Farmer's Market. Have brunch at Mary's n the balcony. Lucky you!

There are many beautiful South Carolina State Parks in the area, most with lakes, some, like Caesar's Head, with amazing views.

Strongly seconding a visit to Greenville, and many love the city of Asheville.

There may be tours of the BMW plant there. wonder why you chose Spartanburg.
For your time, Asheville and Greenville will probably fill it up. There are outlets at Gaffney for shopping.
Charlotte is worth a look next trip.

You can rent bikes to ride on the swamp rabbit trail so don't worry if you can't pack them. I also like downtown Asheville for rambling.

cmcfong, Where is Swamp Rabbit Trail? Is the Farmer's Market in Greenville? (love them)

Gretchen- We chose Spartanburg since we can't head out of town on the 3rd until noon and didn't want to drive too long and loose out on a complete day. I figure we will have at around 3 hours to walk around Spartanburg and explore before it gets dark.

Got some recommendations on DuPont State Forest from Tripadvisor so we will definitely be going there.

Thanks to all of you for input, I really appreciate it.

The swamp rabbit trail links old Dr beds and paths. It stretches from Travelers Rest to past the Fals River Park. It frequently parallels a mountainous river. You can sample the path from the park.

Both are in Greenville. We had lunch at the Swamp Rabbit cafe ( surprise selection of Turkish sandwiches!!!). very good. Absolutely delightful way to spend the day.
