day-trips from San Francisco?
Hi, any ideas for day-trips from San Francisco? Is Sacramento worthwile?
Have already been to Sausalito, Muir Woods, Berkely. The Parks are probably too far. Is Lake Tahoe too far for one day and is it worth it? I'm going february , so I don't know about the weather. Must be quite cool.
thank you.

Tahoe is several hours away and if there is snow on the road your "day trip" will no longer be. It is beautiful, but the few times we have driven up and back we were all ehxausted.
There are lots of great places to visit that are more manageable though! Some ideas would be Pt. Reyes, Tamales Area, Bodega, Sebastopol, The Russian River Area (Gurneville), and of ourse Sonoma and Napa. It depends what kind od things you like to do and who is going. Sacramento has an Old Town shopping area and you can visit a great train museum. You can also ride the train into Sacramento from nearby areas. It wouldn't be my choice if I had limited time UNLESS I had a train enthusiast with me.Welcome to Northern California! You will have a great time!

How about a day trip to Monterey?
Also do a little research and see if there are any festivals going on while you're up there. There are so often fun festivals going on in No. Calif that might be enjoyable and save you the trip out of town.
As for Sacramento, I could pass on that one. I suppose if you are into government facilities and history, it would be fine, but is kind of limited beyond that.

I would highly suggest a trip to Monterey Bay and Carmel. Drive down the coast and enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air! Shop and eat along canerey row, visit the aquarium, take a drive down the gorgeous 17 mile drive, rent kayaks in Monterey, rent bikes in Monterey and ride part of the 17 mile drive (or all if your ambitious)!
