day trips from Phoenix/early November

We will be in AZ in early Nov, looking for a few ideas for day trips.
We have already been to Sedona and Grand Canyon (of course could always go there again)
We like scenery, hiking, anything outdoors.
We have a few ideas:
Tonto Natural Bridge
Roosvelt Lake
Drive to Tortilla Springs
Thanks for any suggestions.

Apache Trail which includes three desert lakes and Tortilla Flats, can eat in Payson. Drive to Wickenburg, just 45 minutes northwest of Phoenix...cute little western town, good galleries, terrific museum, lunch at Rancho de los Caballeros.....Lake Pleasant on the way to or from there...that road has beautiful scenery. South to just outside Tucson, to Saguaro Nat'l Park and Desert Sonora Museum, outdoors, flora, fauna and animals of the desert.

I just looked at notes in my hard drive and found this advice that Karen gave me a year and a half ago. I loved the drive along the Apache Trail - and not just the blacktopped area - go for the gravel road too. Thanks again, Karen. I will never forget your advice on that one!

"The Apache Trail, east of Phoenix, by three desert lakes, Roosevelt, Canyon, Sahuaro and the little spot by the side of the road, Tortilla Flats...definitely worth a few hours drive, if you find you have time."

Karen & Paul
Thanks for the suggestions, I think we will certainly make time for the Apache Trail/Tortilla Flats Drive.
Also want to look up more info on Lake Pleasant.
Thanks again.

Look at going south also - Chiracahua Nat'l monument, Bisbee, Katchner Caverns, Tombstone. Altho these are best done with an overnight stop

Jerome is an old mining town we always visit that's about 1 hour or so from Phx. Wonderful shops, hotels, restaurants.

We visited Tombstone when we were in Tucson and were very disappointed. IMO, not worth the trip from Phx.

IMO Tonto Natural Bridge is a must see. Amazing. It is in a State Park with several options for hiking trails, beautiful falls and picnic area. Plus it is just about an hour and half from Phoenix.

I totally agree with Leona re: Tombstone. I never recommend it, poorly done, but rarely win out...visitors want to see it anyway. Tucson visiting should include Saguaro Nat'l Park and Desert Sonora Museum, both sensational for a day tour, go early !
