Day trip to Orcas?

We'll be in Seattle for a couple of days next week for a wedding and so I'm looking for activities to keep us occupied. We visited for a week in February and did all the usual things (we even had great weather!) so I'd like to do something we haven't done. I was wondering what the general consensus is on driving to Anacortes, taking the ferry to Orcas Island, tooling around for the day and then ferrying back at the end. Does this seem like too much for one day? (Keep in mind that in February we ferried to Bainbridge and then drove out to Olympic National Park for an hour or so.) Is this type of trip even worth it for one day or am I fooling myself? :-)

I think it's worth it if you go on a day when the ferry wait isn't four hours. I did a day trip last summer with my parents and we had plenty of time - left from Stanwood, so it was a shorter drive than you'll have, but IMO it's doable from Seattle. If Photobucket were cooperating I'd post a couple of photos from the top of Mt. Constitution that would convince you!

This isn't my idea of a good time except that I am always pleased when I do something that I have my heart set on doing.

We could make other suggestions if we knew what you did when you "did all the usual things" in February because it isn't "usual" (or, in my experience, even possible) to visit Olympic National Park for an hour.

we caught the ferry from Seattle and were lucky to see 2 pods of Orcas that was July though.

You could do it in a long day. Here's the ferry schedule:

You can pick the day, route and see the schedule. Anacortes is about 1 1/2 hours away, but avoid driving at rush hour, as traffic is horrendous.
