David Blumenson- The Best City in US for Family Trip?
Hi,
My name is David Blumenson, This season me and my family have decided to go for a family trip. So that I am here to know about the best city in US for our trip, if you people have any idea or experience regarding it then please suggest me as soon as possible... Thanks David Blumenson |
Best to me might not be the best to someone else.
Whose in your family? What kind of activities do you like? How long will you be here? Have you been to the US before? If so, where? You need to give us more information. But, not having any of those questions answere, New York City would be my recommendation. |
Would be good to know the age of your children.
I will make two suggestions: San Francisco offers a scenic bayside setting, excellent food, the famous Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz Island, and Ghiradelli Square to name a few. Day trips to Napa Valley, Muir Woods, Sausalito, Monterey, and Carmel are superb. An overnight trip to Yosemite is possible. San Francisco is the most popular destination of overseas visitors to the U.S. A Fodor's poster named Stu Dudley provides an extensive San Francisco guide that you can search on the Forums. San Diego has the famous Zoo, several fine beaches, superb year round weather, Sea World, seasonal whale watching, and a couple local casinos. Day trips are possible to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, the Getty Museum, and many SoCal destinations like Laguna Beach or Newport Beach. |
On the east coast, Boston, New York or Washington DC would be my picks, depending on budget and the interests of the kids. All will probably be warm in the summer with DC hot and humid. Cities tend to have expensive lodging and parking a car will cost, but they all have good subway systems that most people prefer when there.

How much do you want to spend? How long do you have? How many people? Age of children?
|
BUT it would be Washington DC for children of any age. Our captial is too often just forgotten, and it is a wonderful city.

Hello,
There are 4 members in my family, me my wife and 2 daughters of 5 and 8 years old. We are planning for 2 weeks holidays. Budget is not an issue for us. If you have any idea please suggest the best places for family trip.. Thanks David Blumenson |
" you have any idea please suggest the best places for family trip.."
What do you think of the ideas already listed?? Did you even bother to read them? |
Really! Try telling us more about your likes & dislikes, what type of activities interest you. Let us know where you are traveling from, whether or not you've visited other places in the US before, if so when was that?
When are you planning to make this trip? The US is a very big place with lots of different areas and climates. We need to know what you want to accomplish. There's no one "best" city, just different cities: If this is your first time to the US or your first time traveling with the family consider the following: New York City Boston Washington, DC Chicago Los Angeles San Francisco Miami Atlanta New orleans All have many great points of interest. If those don't appeal to you, there are hundreds more cities to choose from. |
The East Coast will be very hot in the summer if you are coming then.
If you can come in Spring or early fall, with kids that age: 1. Washington DC for five days 2. Travel to Fredericksburg for lunch and a tour. Continue on to Williamsburg (one day) 3. Williamsburg, VA for three days (to see Colonial Williamsburg and spend a day at Busch Gardens) 4. Virginia Beach for three days of sea and sun |
If you want the best weather in the mainland US, plus easy access to great beaches, and plenty of things for the kids to do - such as the world renowned Zoo and Safari Park (previously known as the Wild Animal Park - http://www.sdzsafaripark.org/
- or want to take them to Legoland or SeaWorld, and then perhaps have a galato in Little Italy during the warm day - or have some of the best Mexican food anywhere while here - our current favorite being Cafe Guadalajara by Old Town (above which the first Mission in California was built -http://www.oldtownsandiegoguide.com/ then by all means come to see us in San Diego. :) |
Sassafras has a good mix for children of that age in my opinion.
For that age children, maybe the west coast--san Diego, LA and disneyland. |
I would do either NYC or Boston. You can easily occupy yourself for a couple of weeks in either place - but you can also do 5 days in either places with a couple of days at the beach if you prefer.
Given 2 weeks I would probably do a week each in NYC and DC - since you specified cities. (But with kids that age I wold really do 1 week NYC and 1 week at the beach - either the Jersey shore or the Hamptons. Not sure where you are from or what the beaches are like - but the NY and NJ beaches are some of the best in the world (much better than Europe IMHO). I would never do Disneyland -since DisneyWorld has so much more to offer - but you really can't go in the summer - the weather is just too hellishly hot. |

Without knowing where you're coming from, it's hard to say, but I would suggest either New York/Washington or Boston/beach, or California (San Francisco/Los Angeles/Anaheim (Disneyland)/San Diego).
|
Like so many others have mentioned:
NYC Rhode Island - Newport, Block Island (not a city but my kids loved it so much) Philadelphia Washington DC Outerbanks, NC - stayed at Kill Devil Hills Florida Keys California - pick an area - San Diego, San Francisco - I'm sure there are many more. Haven't taken the kids to Virginia yet but have heard good things. |
Come to a friendly city:
