Dauphin Island
 

There are two motels (Gulf Breeze and Harbor Lights Inn) listed for Dauphin Island which are under common ownership. Is one better than the other?

I don't know anything about those hotels, but my home town was Mobile. I can tell you most people in that area prefer Gulf Shores area over Dauphin Island. The water/ beaches there are tea colored and have many tree stumps in the water (courtesy of hurricane Frederick years ago). OSB.

Thanks for the input OSB, but we are going to Dauphin Island for the birding. Later in the trip we will be doing the beach thingy.

Are you aware of the bird santuary between Fairhope and Foley ( a much nicer area IMHO)? OSB.

OSB - thanks again, but Dauphin Island is one of the premier locations for viewing migratory birds. Later in the trip we will be staying in Point Clear and plan to visit the Weeks Bay reserve that I believe you are referring to. We also will be visiting Bon Secur National Wildlife Refuge and Fort Morgan.
