Is the auto ferry to the mainland reliable from Dauphin Island? <BR>What is the best route to Dauphin Island from Ft.Walton Beach FL? <BR>Thanking you in advance. Hoyt

This message is very old and no one replied, but I came to this board looking for the same answer. Can anyone help out?

I would take 85 north from FWB to I-10 west through Mobile and take the Dauphin Island Parkway south to the island. I would'nt take the ferry from Ft. Morgan but that is only my opinion. Good luck, I'm glad you got a reply to your question.

I hope, too, that you know exactly what Dauphin Island is like. My late mother-in-law absolutely loved it, so a couple of years ago my husband and I paid a visit. All I can say is that it is basically dead...lots of vacation homes on the beach but nothing else. No restaurants, no hotels, no town, no nothing. We take vacations based on R&R but would be bored silly on Dauphin Island. We're in our late 50's...hardly party lovers.

Our family absolutely loves to go to Dauphin island at the end of the summer! It's not very crowded at this time of the year. We have a wonderful time there, and we think it is beautiful. Last summer, we took the ferry over to Fort Morgan, and the kids really enjoyed it. We went on the nature walk and saw an alligator in the lake! We always stay at the Daupin Island beach club which is right on the beach and has two wonderful swimming pools. I would recommend Dauphin island as a destination for anyone who needs to get away from it all!
