Clue the rest of us in...where is "here"?

I'm assuming you are talking about the highly regarded restaurant in New York City. It recently moved and that is probably why you did not hear much about it for awhile. The reviews have been very good. Check out the Zagat's site-it has pretty reliable reviews.

I have made a few visits to the new Daniel. It is really amazing. THe menu is totally prix fixe and it deserves its ratings as the best restaurant in NYC. Daniel has become what Le Cirque used to be - the place where real New Yorkers go for a good meal. You will find that the clientele is mainly East Side matrons and their families, the type of people who appreciate (and are used) to the great food and service. I suggest you go early and have a few drinks in the bar.

Our reservation is at 8:30. I didn't want to cut sightseeing short. I know it will be fabulous but was curious why it hasn't made 5 star or top 6 restaurants in NYC.I've read that you have to order just the right things on the menu. At those prices I expect everthing to be wonderful. thanks

Part of the reason it has not made a five-star rating from the NYTimes is its relative newness. Often, it takes awhile for a restaurant to get into full swing. The five star rating did not transfer when Daniel moved to its new location. However, the menu is great and I think that Daniel deserves a five star rating; it's just that nobody has gotten around to reviewing it again after their initial review last year. It's definitely worth the trip (and the money).

Perhaps the primary reason that Daniel does not have a five star rating from the N.Y.Times is that its highest possible rating is FOUR stars. Be rest assured, you are in good hands with Daniel Boulud in the kitchen!

Sorry, Frank is right. I was thinking of the Mobil rating system.
