Dallas weather/clothing
I will be visiting Dallas at the end of this month. I see the weather there now is hotter than I expected (83-88 high). Is wearing shorts appropriate for touring the city of Dallas? Thanks.

Huh??? I came into Dallas Sunday night.Yesterday was 100D, more in some places and today is also in that range but I havent been out since early morning. The natives are restless thats for sure and new records have been recorded.I expereinced a new phenomenon I had never even heard of before: rolling blackouts, whereby the electric company imposed mandatory 15 minute blackouts moving across the city in an effort to stem the demand for power.Traffic lights were out and in someplaces the TV stations reported chaos.I didnt see any of that.I make it a habit to bring warm weather apparel anytime I visit Dallas. They told me that January was warmer than March!

You can wear whatever you want in Dallas and fit right in, as long as it has a label with someone's name on it. ;-)

After today, the forecast high for the next week ranges from 75-84.
Depending on where you're going, shorts may or may not be appropriate. If you're just hitting touristy places, I'm sure it's fine. |
Who even knows what the weather will be like at the end of the month???? You should wait and check a few days before you arrive.

I've never been able to figure out fashion in Dallas. Some people (not poor based on their cars)seem to wear alost rags.
Then one evening we saw two couples dining in a public restaurant. The men had on tails suits and the women ball gowns (not just evening dresses) and tiaras - with other diamonds on every place they could find. (I thought it was a joke - or they were tranvestites [they were really ugly women] on the way to a drag show - but it turned out they were just four incredibly overdressed people having dinner out. |
Check weather.com before you go.
Spring weather in Texas is notoriously erratic. Today, we had a high of 95, but tonight a big cold front is blowing through and tomorrow's high will be in the 70's. |
I've been living in Dallas for 2 years now, and one thing I've noticed is that the A/C is always set very low in restaurants. It can be 90-100F out, but inside is usu 65-70F. For someone like me, I always have to bring a long-sleeve cardigan so that I won't freeze to death during dinner.
