D, do you guys have iPhones? Maybe you could do some FaceTime with your granddaughter? Not as good as being there, but at least you could see each other. Much more intimate than just a phone call.

Volcano- I have to get the new iphone to do facetime. Right now it is not an expense I am up for but may break down and do it in order to do just that.... :( EVERYTHING is just really adding up.

How about Skype with the kids? It's free and it is supposed to be pretty good.

I second Deb's suggestion, you could Skype your granddaughter (and her parents :-) ) every day, it is definitely not the same as being there but a good substitute.

We have a lot of friends who use Skype and love it.

Dawn, I Skype my granddaughters all the time, and they live practically around the corner! I just Skyped with the two in North Fort Worth. Too cute!

Skype is a great idea - we did video each other today - it is hard on her- she gets confused:(
moving truck got here yesterday and we have had a few long days but I am happy to be in a house - so is my golden:) dh leaves on his first trip next week - hevwill be gone 2 weeks a month ...

We just Skyped with our DD and family in California. Got to see the new furniture and hear all about the football games and cheerleading and even the pug, Rosie, had a thing or two to say. We love it!
It will be a huge help, but can leave a lump in your throat, too. It gets easier with time.

Dawn, I am so glad to hear that your moving truck has arrived and you are in your new house. Things will all get organized over time and you will start getting used to your new life in Texas. Just a note from Orange County - it was very chilly and foggy in Newport Beach today. Lots of people around but cool. Not a good beach weekend for those who love to spend a long Holiday weekend at the beach. I think you would like Skype as it would be a great way to stay in close touch with your Son and DIL and grand baby. Hope your husband's traveling goes well. Keep smiling. :>)
