Dallas in December

If the Football season does go on this year, my husband and I are planning a trip to Dallas in December for the Cowboys/Giants Game. I know nothing about the area other than where Kennedy was shot, so I'm looking for ideas. What to do while there, we will have Saturday and Sunday, where to stay, where to eat. Any ideas are more than welcome

There is tons of shopping, check out Mockingbird Station, Northpark Mall, and The West Village. Walk around Greenville Avenue for bars and food, check out Deep Ellum for music (although this area has been on the decline). Highland Park is a nice, upscale neighborhood with an outdoor shopping center and high-end restaurants. Dallas is FULL of good food so it's hard to go wrong.

What are your interests? The poster above gave you good ideas for shopping. If you like art, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Garden next door are excellent. There's also the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum and Kimball (also in Fort Worth). If the weather is warm enough, Dallas Arboretum and the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens are always quite nice.

Don't forget to do a Cowboys stadium tour (but not on the same day as the game). Take a day trip to Fort Worth and get in touch with your inner Cowboy or Fort Worth Zoo.

Many many great restaurants in Dallas, so let us know what you are seeking and price range and we can help with recommendations!

We have Eagles at Cowboys tickets so we hope the season goes ahead as well!

thanks for all the posts, those are great ideas, for food, I'd like to check out some of the local favorites, definitely plan on going to Fort Worth, we like to go to places that are unique, villages and quaint towns, so all the ideas sent are terrific, thanks so much. Any ideas on hotels, we want to be central to the stadium, Dallas and Fort Worth and not sure where to station ourselves, we've heard Dallas closes down on the weekends and Fort Worth is a better place to hang. Any thoughts.

I would stay in Dallas, I think you could cover Fort Worth in a day and a night depending on your interests and you would be closer the the stadium if you stay in Dallas. Suggest having a look on your favourite hotel booking sites for hotels in Dallas as there is a huge variety of accommodation and location. For example, you may want to stay near one of the malls if that is important to you or closer to Downtown?

You don't mention budget or cuisine preferences but here are some of my favourite Dallas restaurants Bob's Steakhouse (also has a site in Fort Worth), Abacus, La Duni, Mi Cocina, Bread Winners Cafe and Bakery, Stephan Pyles, Al's Biernats or for a truely Dallas experience how about eating in the Wolfgang Puck Reunion Tower Ball? On the flip side you must go to Billy Bobs in Fort Worth!

For a special occasion nothing beats The French Room at the Adolphus Hotel! Tripadvisor has a good list of Dallas' favourite restaurants.

You only have two nights so you'll need to edit down!

Ps Love the picture of you and your dogs on the beach!

Personally, I would say stay in downtown Fort Worth. As the AFC Super Bowl crowd discovered, there are tons of restaurants, shops, and a couple of movie theatres in Sundance Square. My personal favorite restaurant in FW is Reata, which is "cowboy cuisine" and has a lot of steaks. Their rooftop bar is great! Simply Fondue is wonderful, too. Hotels downtown tend to be higher end: Worthington Renaissance, Sheraton, Omni, etc.

Go to Dallas for the day to see Dealey Plaza (where JFK was shot) and the Sixth Floor Museum. Yes, downtown Dallas is a ghost town at night.
