Dallas Hotel/Motel
 

Is there a hotel or motel in Dallas that is within walking distance of movie theaters, restaurants, and other entertainment? I would like to stay in such a neighborhood when I vist Dallas next week.

Dallas is a pretty big city. What part of town will you be in? What is your budget?

Maybe try Hotel ZaZa in the McKinney Avenue area. It's near quite a few restaurants. There is also an area called the West Village fairly nearby that has shopping, a movie theatre, restaurants, but I don't think you could walk there from the Hotel ZaZa and I don't know that there is a hotel in the West Village.

Downtown Dallas now has a few restaurants open after dark, but it still pretty much closes down.

If you stayed in the Westin Galleria hotel, you would have access to the restaurants, stores and moview theatres in the Dallas Galleria mall. That is in north Dallas off of 635 and looks like every other highway/mall area...not a lot of "local charm."

Missypie, Thanks for your suggestions. I will be spending time with family that lives north of town--toward Richarson/Plano. I would like a room in the $100-$150 range.

You could stay Uptown - hotels: ZaZa, Stoneleigh, Crescent Court. Couple of B+Bs: one on Maple another in State-Thomas. Not sure of their names.


Along McKinney Ave is a trolley. Upper end has West Village - Magnolia movie house (art films), restaurants, shops. Lower end has museums - DMA, Nasher and is on the edge of downtown where you can catch the DART train and go to Mockingbird station where you'll find another WestVillage-like set-up with the Angelika movie theater.

Off McKinney Ave are Fairmont, Routh and Maple Sts where you'll find antique shops, galleries, restaurants.

Those are some great hotels actually. You can probably get some good deals online too if you book soon. I know Orbitz always has great hotel rates...Dallas is an amazing city too..i'm jealous you are going there. Have you been there before?

If you want to be in the Richardson/Plano area, you are talking (for the most part) about stereotypical suburbia. You COULD stay in a hotel up there and walk across parking lots and along busy streets to get to stores, theatres and restaurants, but I don't know why you'd want to.

I'd be very interested to know if a charming hotel in a charming neighborhood - where walking places woudl be pleasant - exisits in Richardson or Plano. Anybody???

I will say that those cities are linked to Dallas by the light rail system, so that might be a transportation option.

You are right missypie not a whole lot on thsi side of town :)

The Double Tree on Legacy and the tollway is close to Rcdn/Plano - you can walk to several nice restaurants and the Angelika theatre there. Not very many stores there - you would have to drive down about 5/10 minutes to Stonebriar. However the restaurants are mainly upscale, there's also a wine bar, a couple of chains - Mi Cocina, Half Shells and Rice Boxx. Also Sal's New York Style pizza - yum - of course the ubiquitous Starbucks and I also a Cold Stone creamery. Other entertainment nearby - there's a Dr. Pepper center (hockey)and also baseball (little league or B or C teams or some such -my knowledge of baseball is nill).

The downtown area suggested is much nicer
though.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but like missypie said, you can stay at a hotel close to a DART station and take it to downtown.

If you are going to take DART, why not take it to Fort Worth? Downtown FW (Sundance Square) is very nice.
