Dallas: Doubletree?
 

Hi again! <BR> <BR>I've been looking into hotels for my trip to Dallas in September or October, and I'm considering the Doubletree. Since I will b spending much of my time at the State Fair, location is something of a consideration. <BR> <BR>Any comments on the Doubletree? <BR> <BR>I do like small hotels as well; how expensive is the Hotel St Germain? I'd love to hear comments from those who have stayed there. <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR> <BR>Betsy

Which Doubletree?

Hmmm. I forgot there were multiple locations. <BR> <BR>I think there is one on LBJ Freeway,and one on North Central Expressway. <BR> <BR>Thanks!

Campbell Center (North Central) is the closest to Fair Park. However, the LBJ (Lincoln Center) location is the nicer of the two. <BR> <BR>If you like small hotels (I do, too!) check out the Stoneleigh or the Melrose. I've also read good things about the Magnolia downtown, but don't know much about it personally.

If you want to be close to Fair Park, I'd recommend staying somewhere on Central Expressway (Doubletree Campbell Centre) or in the downtown Dallas business district. There is an Amerisuites at the West End, and also a Hampton Inn there that would be very convenient. I know there is a La Quinta on Central Expressway, too. <BR> <BR>635 and Tollway is very, very inconvenient to Fair Park. You would be spending all of your time in traffic!

Christie, <BR>I don't know what part of Dallas you live in, but I live behind the Galleria at 635 and the Tollroad. I go to Fair Park several times a year for concerts and the Fair. It takes me at most (depending on time of day) 25 min. to get there. <BR> <BR>The Doubletree on LBJ is very nice. I have never stayed there but have been there for meetings. <BR> <BR>I agree with the other posts though. Stay somewhere around Downtown. The Hyatt Regency, the big ball you see in the skyline, is a VERY nice hotel. I'd recommend that.

Scott- <BR> <BR>I am lucky! I live in Lakewood (by White Rock Lake) and it takes me a whopping 5 minutes to get to Fair Park. <BR> <BR>I wouldn't recommend that a visitor stay so far away from FP when there are plenty of good hotels closer than 635 and the Tollway.

No one who lives in Dallas is lucky, but i digress...

Thanks for all your responses.... <BR> <BR>I was advised by someone that it's not a good idea to stay that close to the Fair Park, as the neighborhood isn't the greatest. <BR> <BR>I did look at the Stoneleigh; is that location more convenient? <BR> <BR>Sorry for the questions! The Stoneleigh, Melrose, Hyatt, and the hotels in the West End are more convenient than the Double Trees as they are all in Downtown or Uptown areas. This is about a 5 min drive to Fair Park. <BR> <BR>One thing with the Stoneleigh, though, is that its very old. Its a very nice hotel but if your not into the older, historic hotels with wooden floors and slighly musty smell, then you might not like it. But don't get me wrong, its a beautiful hotel in a good location in Uptown. <BR> <BR>Other possiblities, the Fairmont or the Mansion on Turtle Creek. Both are located not to far from the Stoneleigh in Uptown. They are both very upscale hotels and pricey but very nice with great restaurants.
