dallas 3 hour layover

We have a 3 hour layover in Dallas and were wondering if we could make it to the Book Depository and back to Dallas-Ft. Worth Int. in time for our flight. We obviously would just check out the area briefly.

I wouldn't think you have time for much other than maybe a meal and then head to your gate. 3 hours isn't really 3 hours especially at DFW, gates are usually far between, and flights can be late getting in. I'd just bring a book and settle in or grab a bite, there are lots of restaurants and a bit of shopping along all the terminals.

i agree with Travelbuff. No way. The traffic from DFW into Dallas, and vv, is unpredictable. But there are lots of shops and restaurants at DFW, and lounge areas, esp'lly in the newer terminals.

I agree with travelbuff and CaliNurse.

Sorry, but don't even think about it. We had a 12 hour layover in Dallas last week - hired a car (with satnav), visited Southfork and then the Book Depository, but it was very tight and we returned to the airport earlier than we had intended as we worried about the traffic and getting back in time.

Take the tram to terminal D - there's enough shopping and restaurants there to keep you busy. I wouldn't even dream of leaving the airport.

Dallas is big enough so that if you walk, it might take you three hours to get to your next gate.

BeachGirl247 Jun 29th, 2009 06:38 AM

I agree with every post -- no way would I leave the airport!

emalloy, I agree!

Just to chime in - NO WAY.

Ditto the suggestion to take SkyLink to the International termianl (D) for shopping, grab a bite and stretch your legs.

It's a good 30-40 min drive from DFW to Dallas, IF no traffic. You definitely will miss your flight if you attempt to head out to Dallas.

Better yet, is this trip international? If so, the answer is an even bigger NO. You couldn't get from DFW, to the Book Depository and back 2 hours before the flight if your stop-over is on the way out of the US. If flying into the US, you couldn't get through customs, re-check bags, go downtown and back out and make your connection.

Tx girl is right, if you don't arrive in Terminal D, go there and putter about. It's the new one that DFW built for international flights before Delta pulled out of its minihub and AA scaled back on transoceanic departures (KIX, Zurich).

spirobulldog Jun 29th, 2009 09:37 AM

I wouldn't try that if the Book Dep was across the street from the airport. Don't even think about it.

As others have said, go over to Terminal D. There are some excellent dining options there. My personal favorites are Reata and Cool River. Both are the airport locations of the local favorite restaurants, and they have excellent food and drink.

Or, buy a day pass to one of AA's Admirals' Clubs. There are 3 or 4 throughout DFW.

Or rest up at the Club at DFW (Terminal D) - http://www.theclubdfw.com/tp/dynamic/
Cheaper than the others - we spent a couple hours in there last week. Didn't find the showers though.
