Dallas

My husband and I will be spending a few days in Dallas in February. It will be my first time to the city. Any suggestions on what not to miss? We plan to visit the Sixth Floor Museum and have reservations for The Mansion one evening. Is the restaurant on top of Reunion Tower worth going to? Thanks for your help.

I think Reunion Tower is a miss. It is somewhat dated. Besides, you're going to the Mansion one night (Im jealous).

As far as sights, I might recommend the Dallas Museum of Arts. It is a great museum and a nice way to spend the afternoon.

How about a Dallas Mavericks basketball game? Or take a quick trip over to Fort Worth and the stockyards?

You might want to have a drink at Reunion Tower, but Antares the restaurant isn't all that great shakes. In addition to the stockyards in Ft Worth, there's the Kimball art museum one of the nations best funded, truth be told its collection is better than the Dallas Museum. Plus Sundance Square in Downtown Ft Worth is really fun.

Try Reunion Tower for lunch. Prices are much cheaper and the food is still good. I was there in May and enjoyed it.

Definitely take a trip over to Ft. Worth. The downtown is much more people friendly in the evening and the stockyards area is true Texas history.

I spent a day downtown while I was training as a flight attendant. I enjoyed the Musem of Art, its sculpture garden, and its fabulous restaurant "Seventeen Seventeen." http://www.dm-art.org/site_map.htm

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention "The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza" dedicated to chronocling the assasination of JFK. It is right above the "Grassy knoll." http://www.jfk.org/General_Information.htm#Hours

The 6th floor, Book Depository where the shot was fired. Worth a visit for many reasons.
Where are you staying? Most of the "action" is in FarNorthDallas, north of LBJ Freeway in the Addison area. The McKinney Ave area is hopping.A lot better food can be had than at the Mansion. But to each his/her own.

To find out what's happening in the city and check out restaurant reviews, go to www.guidelive.com --- it's the online section of the Dallas Morning News that's a good source for events. Nice dining experience at The Mansion; I wouldn't waste my time w/restaurant on top of Reunion.

I'd go for
Paris Vendome, 3699 McKinney Ave.
Dallas, TX 75204, 469-533-5663
This is restaurant in the 'West Village'; it's just north of downtown. In addition to Paris Vendome (upscale, exp) there are several other casual less expensive places to eat in area. Plus you can take in a movie at the Magnolia Theatre; a nice 'art house' showing independent and foreign films. Oooo, and don't forget to get a gelato at Paciugo's --- mmmmm, yummy.

BeachBoi is right --- alot of action in Far North Dallas & Addison areas. I'm less familiar with those sections of town as I live in Park Cities.
