Dakota Apartment building
does anyone know the phone number for inquiring about the Dakota Apartment Building. My husband and I are relocating and thinking of buying one. I have tried over and over to get a phone number but I am unsuccessful. Thank you!!

You need to contact a NYC realtor who specializes in co-ops, unless you know someone who already owns in the building who can tell you who to contact. It is highly unlikely you will get anywhere simply calling the front desk. <BR>

This may sound odd, but try contacting Architectural Digest Magazine - because each month they advertise properties such as Dakota apartments all over the world. They will know the top realtors in NYC hwo are likely to be able to represent those owners. I would also suggest that Dakota apts. are not likely to be listed in the media at all - there is probably a long waiting list, and payments have alreday been paid. That is the way it works in NYC, I know from experience. Good luck.

As the previous poster hinted, don't get your hopes up too high. Your chances of getting into the Ansonia are slim to nonexistant! (P.S.: If by some miracle you could, you do realize that it's very, very expensive there, don't you?)
|
Try calling Yoko and see if she's willing to sublet. Sorry for being cynical, I'm just jealous of the fact that you have enough $ to even consider the Dakota an option. I don't know exact cost but an apt. there would have to cost well over a million bucks.

At the Dakota, if we're talking the real Dakota, you can think of starting at $4-$6M, if not more. If you know who you're neighbors will be, you'll see why. But there are other art deco buildings on the West Side of the Park. If you have that kind of bread to spend, what the heck are you doing on Fodors for advice?

Having the millions (the above minimums aren't an exaggeration) wouldn't be enough, even if there's a property available; such buildings have the pickiest coop boards in the city, and they can deny sale to pretty much anyone, even if they have the desired financials. Let's just say they're likely to be pretty elitist.

Yes, I do realize how expensive they are. I did finally get a phone number. Thank you to the people who had given great advice. Boy this forum attracts everyone! You ask a simple question and you get a song and dance!

Hey, Connie, we get some fairly strange questions here too, befitting the answers. Good luck with that apt.
|
Connie, as one of the responders, I am curious: Which response(s) did you consider a song and dance. I thought we all give pretty much on-the-mark comments!

I'm afraid the very rich are not like you and me.

What do you mean by that?
