We left from Vancouver. Had a cabin with balcony (important) nothing like watching the senery go by and being relaxed in you ouwn cabin. We took RCL which we think is the best. Holland America we have heard many good things. If he can handle it let me suggest a plane ride over the glaciers. While ther I went Halibut fishing and the mate and Captain took care of everything yo needed. Don't pass up Salmon fishing out group landed two 50 pounders. Go to Danali by bus its not a bad trip at all and there is a narrow gauge railway (forgot the town) but it is incredible senery and wildlife. Then we took the senic train had the best prime rib I ever had watched Moose and Bear and then flew home from Anchorage. It was a high lite in my life and it wasn't too hard (in my opinion) of a trip. Worst part was flying from NJ to Vancouver and then from Anchorage to NJ. Cruise was easy and everyone on the ship was eager to please. Go for it. Read suggestions on travel insurance and medical problems in case!

By all means take your Dad. 9 years ago my Mom, age 91 wanted to see Alaska. She did not like to fly but we told her we could not drive to Vancover and back and take a cruise. She flew and we took a RC ship thru the inside passage. It was not a mega ship but medium ship. It was the best vacation for her. RC was awesome with her. She was the oldest person on ship and they treated her like a queen. Even though she could walk she tired easily so RC gave us a wheelchair to use while we were cruising and in the ports. On and off the ship there was always a staff person to push her for us. If your DAD wants to go, then take him. We went in July and Mom passed away in February. She always talked about her trip to Alaska. I will never regret taking her.

I forgot to say that Serenade of the Seas, RC, is now in Alaska. We sailed on her thru Panama Canal and loved the ship and size. Not mega but medium and awesome. Might want to check into it, but do get travel insurance and my DH and I also have medical insurance thru AE if we are 150 miles from home. Hope your Dad enjoys his trip and you to. Cherish every minute.

To her dying day (at 95), my grandma said, "We sure had fun on that cruise, didn't we?" several times a day -about a 4 generation Mississippi River tour we did a few years ago.

We loved it!! The ship was wonderful, all the rooms have balconies and marvelous, attentive service. Our trip was amazing. The cost is bit higher, but certainly worth it. I recomend this cruise to everyone!

I recommend Holland Cruises, roundtrip out of Vancouver, Inside Passge with, for sure, Glacier Bay and a balcony cabin. You father may be too weak to take any of the shore excursions but that balcony cabin, viewing Glacier Bay is a winner and I think Holland is the only ship that cruises Glacier Bay. Princess might also but it would sure be a piority for me.
