Dad is taking 16 year old daughter to San Fran to mend her heart :(

Its been awhile since I have been here...Yes I have been traveling and around the world with my family. ....and loving it. Now Fodorites I need your help. Our 16 year old has broken up with her first boyfriend and dear old dad is taking her to San Francisco to help mend her heart. We have been there before....but not with her as a teen. We thought it would be a good idea if we broke up this weekend...I'm going up to spend it with my 27 year old in Los Angeles,, watch out LA. Dad will go with our youngest to mend her heart..what should they do for restaurants?, excursions? and of course shopping.? DH is a shopper so give him some good places to shop, where the teens like to go. They are in SF for Friday ,Sat, and Sunday......Thank you guys!!!!!

Play this video for her a few thousand times:

R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts (Official Music Video)

I would not want to end of the husband of a female who is treated like this by her father.

I just found Stu Dudleys Recommendations for SF in 2008 which is around 12 pages printed out. My daughter is a photographer and he has a section for great views so I'm so happy I found that..yeah Stu!

You understand that the average teen breaks up with 12 boyfriends before heading off to college, right? That's a lot of trips...........and a good incentive for her to keep breaking up!

That's what I am thinking clark. If I could have gotten a trip out of every break up...

As far as shops, my kids (younger than yours but very into fashion) like Zara, Desigual, Urban Outfitters, and I always find something at Uniqlo.

I don't think I'd be reinforcing to her what a sad 'tragedy' this is... Just call it a father-daughter weekend and cut the drama.

We loved uniqlo too when we discovered it this summer. My 15-year-old bought 2-3 things there. And the store is really cool with the lit-up stairs. The H&M is pretty large too.

I like Jean's idea. My teenager likes to see plays whenever we go to SF.

Thank you everyone..I thought you forgot about this thread...I'm writing this down for dad. You all have been a help. This is our number three the oldest is 27 so we have been through a few break-ups but she is our only daughter and it seems that with the girl it seems tougher. They are staying around Union square and eating the first night at a quaint Mexican restaurant....I tried for Mamacita but it was booked.

My teen granddaughters just love H&M. Lots of neat pieces to try on and choose from--good prices too. Father-daughter time was always special to my daughters. SF is a fun city!

I did chuckle reading spirobulldog's comment. Yes 16 year olds do have their romantic letdowns. But a trip to San Francisco? Why not just let her tough it out in the real world. OK, just enjoy time with your kids.

I love my solo trips with the kids - a little focused one on one time is great for bonding. In addition to all the city has to offer, I suggest a side trip to Berkeley and/or Stanford too, lots of hip stores, fun dining, museums/art, and maybe plant a few college seeds too.

Thanks everyone...they did go to Stanford. Her number 1 choice for college. It was a great trip for my husband to bond with his daughter. What was great is that they talked about the break-up...so wonderful.
I got to spend time in LA with my oldest, he showed me his favorite spots to dine and hang out. It was a great weekend.
