D.C. Hotels - St. Regis or Hay-Adams?

I will be visiting Washington D.C. this summer in August. I can't decide between the St. Regis or the Hay-Adams. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've not stayed at either place, but I love the location of the Hay-Adams. Right on Lafayette Park across from the White House, its historic and beautiful (outside, can't speak about the rooms). I could be wrong, but I think they were recently remodeled. I know they do a great afternoon tea service. I used to work just 2 blocks from there.

I stayed at the Hay Adams.
The hotel is beautiful and has nice (not great) rooms. My stay was before any renovations. So the rooms could be great!
The location cannot be beat. Right across from White House and in walking distance to most attractions.
Have not stayed at St. Regis.

Yes, the Hay-Adams just reopened after major renovations, so it should be lovely. And the location is great. The St. Regis is a gorgeous hotel, but its downtown location is not quite as good.

Stacy,
I stayed at the St Regis last Christmas. It was lovely. The staff A1. It is right around the corner from the McPherson Train Station and a few blocks from the White House. I would base my choice solely on the price you are going to pay. Have a great time!

Hi there --

I agree with staying at the Hay Adams. Nice European-style hotel, great rooms, great location, great restaurant.

I'm from D.C. and never hear much about the St. Regis, but hear raves about the Hay Adams.

Have been to both and you really can't go wrong with either. Both are tops! They are very close to one another so location really does not matter. I have not seen the Hay-Adams since their renovation, but it was very nice before so it should be even better. The lobby at the St. Regis is very luxurious.. I would have to say this hotel is a little more glamourous. (in my opinion). I am curious what you got for rates at both and if they are similiar.
