D.C. during election week

Does anybody see any drawbacks to taking a 4/5-day family vacation (our school has the week off) to Washington, D.C. during election week???
Thanx-
Dede

Congress will not be in session because almost all of the members are at home campaigning and awaiting the outcome of Tuesday's voting.

I would think that things would be a little quieter than normal, but during the week traffic is so bad anyhow, that there will be the usual massive tieups on the freeways.

If you want to visit the museums along the mall, stay where you can get to a Metro station fairly easily. Parking around the Mall area is expensive and, at times, hard to find.

Congress may be out of town, but civil service workers are reporting at usual times, and there are many agencies in that vicinity.

Weather THIS week (week before election) is right around 70 in daytime. Sounds good to me if I'm a tourist. Museums should be more easily accessible than in spring and summer. FDR Memorial is a visual treat any season.

Why wouldn't it be a good time?

It's a fine time to visit. As mentioned, congress will be out of town. For some real excitement, hit a pub on Capitol Hill on election night to watch the results. Hold fast to your opinions and mix it up with the political junkies. Hopefully the gorgeous weather will hold out until then.

P.s. - You WILL have voted before your trip. Right???

It will be quieter than normal. Actually, it already is quieter in Washington these days. The politicians are out of town and the cesspool of Washington lobbyists await who they will have to pimp the next two years.

I'm with bardo1--make sure you vote before you leave!! If you haven't ordered an absentee ballot in advance, you can probably vote at your nearest city hall...

Otheriwse, I ccan't think of any reason not to go--unless the election ends in chaos and millions of angry citizens descend on the capitol to demand their rights. heh heh.

Of course we're voting....that's why we're not leaving until tuesday afternoon!
Thanx for everyone's input!
