Even though that might be true, I still don't feel it is that safe to take metro for the moment. They don't have metal dectecters in the metro stations.

Getting around D.C. by metro really is the best way. That said, if you insist...Take the B-W parkway to Rt. 50. There is far less traffic than on 95. Parking is not easy, espeically thi sitme of yar. Try drivign around near the tidal basin...between the Lincoln Memorial and the FDR memorial. Sometime you can find a spot there.

Do I take Route 50 into Washington? What is the best way to go once I get into Washington? I know some people take Route 29 (16 Street once you get into Washington) into Washington down via Silver Spring. Is this way better?

Thanks for the travel info -- it really helps a lot! Am looking forward to spending the weekend touring D.C. - and I agree with Rich - I'll take my chances on the public transportation!

As someone who takes Metro every day, it's just plain silly to drive.
Rich is right about the odds of injury being far greater in a car -- not to mention avoiding Metro is playing right into the hands of those who hate. |
Another vote for the Holocaust Museum:
TIMED PASSES are necessary for visiting the Permanent Exhibition — The Holocaust — and can be obtained at the Museum on the day of your visit or in advance by calling tickets.com at (800) 400–9373. Each day, the Museum distributes on a first–come first–served basis a large but limited number of timed entry passes for use that same day. Allow extra time when you first arrive at the Museum to pass through the building entry line that can form during spring and summer. This museum has an amazing way of tearing you down to a puddle of mush and then reclaiming you and building up your attitude toward the spirit of mankind. It's truly an awesome experience. |
