D.C. 2 nights

Our long awaited getaway to D.C. is finally here. I will be at a conference most of the day on Friday and Saturday. Wife is hitting the Museums at the Mall during the day Friday and we are planning a Night Tour on Tourmobile on Friday evening. Any nice bars/retaurants near Union Station (where the tour ends) where we can grab some drinks and dinner late (after 10pm). Is the Old Ebbitt Grill nearby? It will be kind of late for a fancy big meal. Also, a friend of ours suggested The Tombs for late dinner/drinks when we get in on Thursday evening. We are in our late 20s.

The Capital City Brewing Company is right next to Union Station in the Postal Musuem. My husband and I enjoyed a nice meal and a beer there a few months ago. I'm not sure about their hours, but I would imagine on a Friday night they would be open late. You might want to check out their website.

Hi,

Old Ebbitt, at 15th and F St, is 2 miles from Union Station. Late at night, I'd suggest taking the metro from Union Station to Dupont Circle and eating at one of the many restaurants up there.

Where is your hotel? That could help narrow down where you go on Thursday night...I like the martinis at The Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut near M St.

If you are down more toward the MCI Center area, I'd suggest Jaleo's at 7th and E St, or Zaytinya's at 701 9th St.

We will be staying at the Fairmont

For a nice, late dinner, Bistro Bis is your best bet. Book NOW and you might get a table. One block from Union Station. http://vidaliadc.com/bistro/index.asp

Jaleo's is perfect but does not accept reservations after 6:30. Even at 10:00 pm it could easily be an hour wait for a table.

Zaytinya is even better (better than perfect??) and DOES accept reservations. Again, book NOW. http://www.zaytinya.com/

For what it's worth, I would avoid Old Ebbitt Grille. Not exactly a tourist trap, but it's all tourists and the food is overpriced. The food IS very good but there are hundreds of other choices.

Here is a list a just the kind of place you're looking for, all in the Dupont area (a 5-10 minute, $7 taxi from union station)

Johnny's Half Shell - 2002 P St., NW 202-296-2021

Obelisk - 2029 P Street, NW 202-872-1180

Pesce Trattoria - 2016 P Street NW 202-466-3474

Gabriel - 2121 P Street, NW 202-956-6690

Bistro du Coin - 1738 Connecticut Ave., NW 202-234-6969

Cafe Odeon 1714 Conn. Ave., NW 202- 328-6228

Tabard Inn - 1739 N St., NW 202-785-1277

Iron Gate Inn - 1734 N St., NW 202-737-1370

Firefly - 1310 New Hampshire Ave., NW 202-296-7600

Komi 1509 17th St NW 202-332-9200

Vidalia - 1990 M Street, NW 202-659-1990 (just south of Dupont, actually downtown)

Here's the master list of Dupont area eats. Click on the places your interested in, then click on "map" to get the restaurants location on a map.

Whatever you decide, it's getting really late. Choose a place today and get a table.

bardo- does Zaytinya now take reservations past 6:30? They didn't when I was last there, which was more than 6 months ago. Good to know. jpg2esq- bardo gave a great list. I'd go for komi, the bar at Johnny's, or try and get a seat at either tapas joint - jaleo (awesome eggplant/red pepper timbale) or zaytinya (awesome everything else). If you're still awake, you can mosey over/taxi over to the Hotel Washington for an after-dinner drink on their rooftop terrace and enjoy the Mall view (but I wouldn't recommend eating there!). Have a great trip!

Re. Zaytinya

AHaugeto,
My mistake. They do NOT accept reservations after 6:30 (I go at lunch).

jpg2esq,
Scratch Zaytinya for Friday night - you won't get in.
