Cycling in Florida
 

We're looking for a spring vacation site in Florida that offers good cycling roads and trails, i.e. wide shoulders and/or light traffic. Scenery would be nice too, but not essential.

I love the area around Lido Key and the Sarasota Beaches. Great cycling. You should also check out the FLorida rails to trails projects, they are fantastic! Lots of options.

I enjoyed Key West for cycling (by Higgs Beach, Smathers Beach, Fort Zachary)...just lovely!

I like the Shark Valley bike trail thru Everglades NP. Only traffic is a couple of slow moving trams coming in the opposite direction, plus frequent stops for gators and other wildlife on the 'road'. Main thing to watch for is snakes, you don't want to run over a rattler or cottonmouth.

Flat, with a stopping/resting point where you can go up the tower for nice views over the sawgrass. You can rent a bike if you don't have your own.
