Cycle Oregon trip report
 

At the request of others, I posted this link on another travel website, so thought I'd post it here: http://www.pbase.com/smg9774/cycle_oregon. If there are any avid cyclists out there, this is a pretty neat event.

This is the kind of trip report that really shows the Oregon spirit.

How I would love to do this. . . but road bikes and highway cycling scare the heck out of me!

mms, driving to Crater Lake makes me dizzy - can't imagine doing that on a bike! But yes, that's the Oregon spirit! (although we still have to disagree about ducks vs beavers :D )

I've heard about Cycle Oregon over the years but you really brought it to life! Congratulations. And I LOVE your photos. Are you a photographer?

Thanks for the positive feedback, all. There is certainly a sense of accomplishment in doing something like Cycle Oregon, but, as I wrote, if I do it again, I hope to come away with more of a sense of helping someone else.

Jock, Sunbum? Hardly! ;-) We all actually did do some training, but most of mine was in spinning classes at the gym. Don't sell yourself short. The average rider age this year was 49, and there were a number of women older than that. But, I hear you about the rain; we were lucky to have such great weather.

I have to be honest, mms. I took that photo long before hearing the story from my friend. He just gave me a reason to include it with the others. :D

I drove around Crater Lake a couple years ago, 321go. It's a lot more scary in a car than on a bicycle. Some of those descents though..... screaming downhill towards the broad expanse of the lake, no guardrails visible.... just a LITTLE unnerving.

Just do it, enzian! (Where have we heard that before?) One of my friends rode Cycle Oregon on a mountain bike his first few years. It's a lot easier on a road bike, though it would have been nice to have had a gear or two lower.

All the photographers I know have day jobs, Orcas. :D And my best stuff isn't nearly as good as most of what they throw away. But, thanks for the compliment; glad you enjoyed the photos.
