Curry Village or Wawona I BOOKED BOTH!!!? :D

Oh man..I think I'm loosing it...I just read reviews about Wawona and saw that people said it is almost an hour away from the main area. I panicked and found a cabin available at Curry Village. I booked that too!!! I realize I can cancel one of these now but which on do I cancel? It looks like Curry Village is much closer to everything..am I right?
We are ok with the thought of being in a cabin, I just want to be where all the beauty is.

Wawona is a long drive from the main area and I thought Curry Village looked too rustic for my tastes so I chose Yosemite View Lodge right outside the park- I thought it was a great place to stay, right on the river had a pool and a couple of restaurants, short drive into the park and you can even take a bus into the park from there if you are just going into the Valley Floor area for the day- much less hassle than driving and trying to find a place to park

I'd take the cabin for sure. The whole point is to be in the Valley. Your rooms at Wawona isn't exactly posh either - shared bath and all.

As long as you are OK w/ the cabin idea - Curry Village would be better than Wawona (and much better than staying anywhere outside the park except Yosemite West mentioned on your other thread)

I would stick with the Curry reservation for now, but keep trying for a room at Yosemite Lodge and Ahwanee Hotel in the Valley up until your cancellation deadline for Curry. Sometimes you can get a room when they have a cancellation.

thanks so much..Since it says it's a cabin, I am going to stick with the Curry Reservation..if it was a tent..that may have been a different story..you guys are GREAT!!!

Are you sure it is a cabin and not a tent cabin? The tent cabins are built over a wooden structure but I used to love staying in them and would again.

janisj Jan 23rd, 2010 03:25 PM

Curry Village has about 50 actual cabins, and 300+ tent cabins. If the OP has booked a tent cabin, it would be clearly spelled out.

Cabins are cabins

Tent Cabins -- aren't . . .

Janisj...read my new post..Yep, they got me at Travelocity. They said in my confirmation that I was getting a cabin (and in the booking) and when I called they said I in fact paid for a tent even though it states everywhere it is a cabin. They are telling me the only thing they can do is give me a $25.00 voucher for my "next" trip. I'm still trying to decide it I should get upset about this or just be thankful I got a place in the Valley.

Noellev13--

First, save (pdf or screenshot) a copy of travelocity's website where they clearly distinguish between a Curry Village "cabin" and "tent cabin".

Then, if travelocity seems unresponsive, file a complaint with your state's consumer protection office and/or attorney general's office, including copies of the website and your confirmation emails.

Also, travel magazines, local media, and other groups often have ombudsmen who can act as intermediaries for you in cases like this.

thanks guys..I feel I do have a right to continue my unhappiness with this situation. It states in their website how they have a customer satisfaction guarantee but I haven't been very satisfied yet :I

OK - too late now -- but why did you use Travelocity? Yosemite accommodations have their own website.

Just for the record we stayed at Wawona lodge and had a beautiful room with private bath. It was delightful with nice verandah to sit on and excellet food in the dining room. My husband is a gofler and he just walked across the street to the golf course. It didn't take an hour to get to the main tourist area (only if you were hiking maybe) It is my favourite accommodation in the park.

SeaUrchin Jan 23rd, 2010 10:28 PM

I know people who have had the same mixup and that is why I posted what I did. Don't let it spoil your trip!

janisj Jan 23rd, 2010 10:34 PM

Yes - I can see a potential mix up if using a 3rd party booking engine. When I posted, I assumed Noellev had gone through the YNP site.

SeaUrchin Jan 23rd, 2010 11:28 PM

janisj, I used to love the Benbow Inn, we used to visit there every summer, what fun. (just looked at your profile)

Good luck, noellev13

I also had major problems with Expedia on a San Diego reservation on which they refused to make changes to my itinerary unless I gave up their discounted advertised price. It's so easy to make reservations on these sites but a nightmare sometimes to make changes. I have learned now to always make my reservations with the hotel directly.

spirobulldog Jan 24th, 2010 04:19 AM

Try the tent cabin, you might actually find it fun. I wish I could talk my wife into it, because thats where I truly wanted to stay.

J62 Jan 24th, 2010 04:27 AM

I don't understand the CV problem. Can't you just cancel that reservation? YNP used to allow you to change or cancel any reservation up until 2-3 days before arrival without any penalty. Has that now changed?

noellev13 Jan 24th, 2010 04:47 AM

thanks everyone for your posts. the only option for the dates I have (June 12th- June 15th) was the Wawona on the yosemite web page. I happen to look at another site and got excited when it said cabin in the valley because we are going to be hiking the whole time. It is not the end of the world, I just with travelocity could simply put tent cabin if that is what you are going to get.
P.S..the only reason I'm not canceling yet is I felt so lucky to get a place so close to all the hiking at a pretty low price that I don't want to lose it even though it is not what they said it was going to be. I will keep looking and if I find something else available from the Yosemite web page, I will likely take it (cabin or cottage at curry village) if not, I will probably suck it up and still make the most of it. Thanks again, I'm sure it will all work out..I'm just not happy with travelocity on how they are dealing with the situation.
