Currently in Sanibel- need aDvice
HI, everyone. wE have been on Sanibel since Sunday and stay another 5 days. We ate at Doc Fords, Sunset Grill and Island Cow. WE drove through Ding Darling Preserve and the nightmare that is Estero Blvd in Fort Myers beach. What else do we need to do while here/ We are resting and enjoying the beach and our pups, who are along and do limit what we can do. Any other suggestions are welcomes. thank you.

If at all interested in history -- a visit to the Edison and Ford homes in Ft. Myers might be really good.
And I'm not sure the best way to do it, but a boat trip to Cabbage Key for lunch is fun. |
Where are you staying? We were in Sanibel 3 weeks ago, our daughter is down there now.
Our favorite thing to do is ride bikes. I have always wanted to kayak but after 4 visits, we have yet to even get to Ding Darling, yet alone kayak. There may be some nature walks or talks there too. We'd also like to take the boat ride---it's a bit cool there right now though. We enjoy the beach--great walking beach, even when it is cool. Sanibel isn't a real sightseeing location--it's where we go to read, golf, bike and walk the beach. We always visit our friends in Naples but that may be farther than you want to drive. |
I live in Naples and have been to sanibel and captiva many times. The mucky duck and across the street is the bubble room are very good resturants. If you have a few hours to spend shopping coconut point is in estero not too far there are many good resturants and a beautiful outdoor shopping area. Of course Naples is a great area but you would a full day here do you have a sitter for your pups!

We will not send our pups to sitter or kennel. They can stay in our cottage- castaways at blind pass- very close to Captiva- locked in for up to 2 hours. thanks for the suggestions.

I would recommend kayaking in Ding Darling. We've done that every year we've been there, always peaceful.
Can I ask if you’ve experienced any red tide and what condition are you finding the beaches? My husband and I were there two years ago, the beaches along the light house stretch were not being taken care of, and the air quality from red tide was so bad all I did was cough. I'd like to come down at the end of March, but my husband is hesitant because of our last experience. Enjoy your vacation, I'm envious... |
Great place to ride bikes. I agree with you about estero blvd. Too many visitors at this time of year. Try eating at the "Pink Flamingo" at the end of captiva. Great boiled shrimp.
