Cupcakes

Hi I am trying to post this on a few boards. I grew up in NY and Love Cupcake Cafe cupcakes... Has anyone had one?
OK well if you have, you know what i'm talking about! Can anyone recommend a place somewhere around the Washington DC metro area, I am willing to drive :)
I am throwing a shower and really want special cupcakes.

Thanks!

I've heard good things about a place called CakeLove. They have a location in Washington. Their web address is: www.cakelove.com
Good Luck.

Another vote for Cake Love...fantastic.

Cakelove is a really lightning rod for DC area foodies.

Some love 'em, others seem to good out of their way to rip 'em.

Personally, I think they are quite good, albeit somewhat overpriced (except on your birthday...).

The real key is to let them warm up because they are kept cool. Wait at least 15 minutes before eating.

Cake Love cupcakes are totally overrated - why should you have to wait for a cupcake to get to room temperature before you eat it? Even then, the frosting is like Crisco. There's apparently a great place in Georgetown with delicious cupcakes - of course I don't know the name.

WADR to tachiebluebird, count me as another epicure (not "foodie", please) who prefers Cakelove to Georgetown Cupcake.

They are fantastic.

And don't worry about waiting 15 minutes, I am sure you are organized enough to set them out 15 minutes before guests arrive.

They have a Silver Spring location also if it's closer to you than the U st. location.

I just noticed the "Crisco" slander.

With continued respect, Cakelove uses only French style butter: no vegeatable shortening, no vegeatable oil, no lard.

That anyone could confuse the taste of the highest quality buttercream with "crisco" is beyond comprehension to me. Perhaps it speaks to the enfeebled tastebuds or the level of (lack of) discernment in gastronomic matters concerning the poster.

Have you been to Cupcake Cafe in NYC lately? I don't get it!!

Maybe I went to the wrong location. Are we talking about the one on 9th avenue in the shadows or the Port Authority?

Bardo,
I'm with you. I think Cakelove gets a big target because its founder has a TV show and is seen as a bit of an interloper/self promoter.

The Crisco slam makes no sense. They whip the stuff up fight in front of everybody -- at least in the SS store -- and you can see exactly what you said. Excellent looking butter ... and better than we use at home in all but special occasions.

I do prefer their éclairs and chocolate bombs -- which have an excellent chocolate -- to the cakes.

Yes BMW , the Cup Cake Cafe is still around and its next to the PORT.
My wife loves it there.

Here's a link to a recent article in the Washington Post about the Georgetown Cupcakes which might be useful. I have no personal experience with either Cake Love or Georgetown Cupcakes because my children say I make the best cupcakes in the world. (How did I get such smart kids?)
