Cupcake Cookery Class and Gospal mass

Going to NY in October with my 12 year old daughter, she would love to do a cupcake cookery class, have looked up Butter Lane cookery classes, does any body know any place else ?
also would like to go to Mass on Sunday morning to a Gospal Mass where ?
We are staying in Affanai Eastgate tower hotel. is this a good area for sight seeing and shopping ? I love Macys but also like the smaller shops. We would like to do Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Grand Central station. Ground Zero, have been to the Empire State Building before. Walk accross Broklyn Bridge.
Any tips, suggestion would be very much apprecated.
Thanking you.

Statue of LIberty is now closed. I understand it will be opening arond October - but don;t know the exact date. You should go now to the National Park Service website to get tht info. If it will be open when you are there get ferry tickets immediately (they sell out months in advance when the statue is open) to avoid a ticket buyers line that can be hours long. There is stilll a security line (Nat'l Pks Svce recos allowing 45 minutes for this - airline type securty with no large bags or backpacks) to et on the ferry.

Affinia Eastgate is not particularly near any major sights - but it provides a lot of room at a bargain price. You can take the subway and/or bus to visit sights all over the city.

Sorry no nothing about cupcakes. And it won;t be Gospel Mass (not Catholic) but a Gospel Service). There are many tours that include these services - make sure you pick one that is prespectful of the worshippers and understand it's not a show but a religious servoce - and that you are dressed appropriately.

Does if have to be Mass or would a non-catholic service work? If so I've enjoyed visiting ellenm's church

Here is a gospel mass that is well-known and very popular.

Butter Lane is very small in the front and they make small cupcakes, so I assume the classes are small as well.

Thank you all, mass does not have to be Catholic, just would love to hear the singing, picked the Eastgate tower because of price and would like a little kitchen for take away food, but would be able to change to some where better ???

The only way to change to a place in a more conveninet location - while keeping such a large space and kitchenette is to significantly increase your budget. (The reason the Eastgate is such a low price is that it is an older property and is in a perfectly fine but not super convenient location for most tourist attractions.) Not sure how much yuo are paying - but if you provide your budget people might suggest other larger suite properties in more convenient locations.

And the service at Brooklyn Tabernacle is NOT a mass. This is not a Catholic or even Episcopalian church. It is protestant and so a service - not a mass.

This is among the most respected cooking schools in the area; It is on West 23rd Street.

I've not taken the cupcake class but I assume it will be good, given the general quality of the classes:

Thank you.

I am paying $1,400 for 5 nights in the Eastgate Hotel, if any body knows of a better location-property that would be fab. would also like to stay near CP, we like nice restaurants coffee shops and to potter around in smaller shops. had a look at the link given from ekscrunchy, looks great. Thanks again.

This is only about $240 per night when you subtract the taxes - a huge bargain for Oct - which is heading into high season in NYC. Other hotels I would reco for the same type of space and facilities at being listed at $80 per night - or more - higher rates. I don;t think you can beat this for price and space.

Thanks for the kudos, starrs.

My church has a gospel choir, but they do not sing every Sunday, though every Sunday you are guaranteed a worship celebration filled with creative arts. The church is located in the East Village in Manhattan. Watch the website for the schedule as you visit approaches.

I just really enjoy being there. I just checked the website and yesterday's event looked AMAZING! http://www.middlechurch.org/about/ne...-middle-church

I'm going to be back up in August. I'm not sure I can get down that way on a Sunday, but maybe a Wednesday service? If you want, head up to the UWS for a visit too.

dholiday, here's the link to their gospel choir - http://www.middlechurch.org/worship-...s-music/gospel

starrs, No Wednesday nights during the summer . . . but you can stream us live every Sunday morning at 11:15 AM

(The Sunday evening piece was very fun.)

Please remember to leave a donation to the church at the appropriate time!

You can take the free Staten Island Ferry for a good view of Lady Liberty from the water or see her from the water while on any of the Circle Line narrated cruises.

If you haven't already, get tickets to go to Top of the Rock for amazing views from Rockefeller plaza. You'll get a great view of the Empire State Bldg from here.

If you hope to view the WTC Memorial, go online to reserve your free tickets well in advance of your stay. We were able to get same day tickets during our recent visit, but I wouldn't recommend that if you've got your heart set on viewing the memorial.

Are you getting tickets to see a show? You can get discounted same day tickets for some shows at the TKTS booth in Times Square. Or, look for discounts on shows on Broadway Box. www.broadwaybox.com
