Cubbie Spring Training-Mesa
My girlfriends and I are going to see our beloved Cubbies play during spring training in Mesa, AZ-- we will be there the 1st weekend in March. We are staying in Mesa at the Holiday Inn Suites- we'll want to find a watering hole after the game on Saturday... is there anything going on in Mesa as far as nightlife goes? How far is Tempe from there? Can we take a cab for a reasonable amount of $$? Any suggestions for a bar to go to? We like places that are somewhat low-key, fun, local joints- good food, good tunes- no "clubs".
Thanks, and GO CUBS!!

Jen, I don't know how long you will be here but I would highly suggest renting a car. It is a very spread out city. There really isn't anything going on in Mesa as far as nightlife so I would suggest driving into Mill Avenue in Tempe. That way you can wander from place to place until you find one that suits you.

ok, second try...
Thanks, Deb-- we really don't want to rent a car, mostly because we don't want to have to drive after having several beers at the ballpark or at a bar... any idea what a cab to Tempe would cost us? How far from Mesa is it- I remember it being about 10-15 miles, but it's been a few years since I've been there and I could be way off.
Thanks again!

to the top for the Cubs!

bringing this to the top--I am going there this spring as well and would be interested in any info on the area...

I'll top this one last time...any Arizonans out there who can help??
Thanks!

my guess is 8-10 miles will get you to Mill Avenue in Tempe; where you can find a number of watering holes. After spending 4-6 dollars per beer and 3 bucks for dogs, the 10-15 dollar fare shouldnt be too bad.
If the Tribune would spend half as much money on their team as their fans do, the Cubs might be worth cheering for...until then, they're pathetic!
