I haven't stayed there, just driven past. All the (3?) places in Cuba are pretty low-budget, so I don't know of anything better. The lodge looked okay from the outside. I'd certainly stay there if I wanted to visit Chaco; otherwise I might go on to Durango or Albuquerque, depending on which direction I was driving.

Thanks for the info. We are visiting Chaco, and I can handle low-budget if it means not having to drive late into the night. I guess it will all depend on how late we get out of Chaco. I've heard it can be a grueling journey.

Driving out of Chaco isn't grueling if the road is dry. You just have to drive more slowly than on a paved road. I always say that my definition of "good road" changed drastically after our family moved to Colorado. Chaco counts as "good road".
Which way will you be heading from Chaco?

It's good to hear another opinion about the drive to/from Chaco. I have an acquaintance who grew up in Albuquerque, and her description of the trip was nearly enough to make me reconsider. On the other hand, I'm used to driving on backroads, having spent my entire life in the Sierra Nevadas. It sounds like just my type of adventure.
We'll be heading east after leaving Chaco, our ultimate destination being Santa Fe.
