CT to SC

I am making a trip Ct to SC. My best friend is getting married. The wedding is in SC. I got a hotel room for July 31st to August 6th. I want to make a few memorable stops on the way down. On my bucket list is to visit all continental states. So... My question is what memorable stops can I make on my way down. Memorable stops does not have to be every state on the way down. I can make a restroom break too on the way to through all the states. Which rest stops are good to stop at. What day should I leave to make a few stops to get to the hotel on July 31st?

Trip: Ct to SC
(States: NY, NJ, DE, PA, MD, VA, NC, SC)

Hotel Dates: July 31st to August 6th

Question #1: What memorable stops can we make?
(add one for each state please so we can choose from)

Question #2: What pit stops can we make for a restroom?
(add one for each state so we can choose from)

Question #3: What day should we leave CT for the hotel Date July 31st?
(two days before the hotel date????!!!!!)
KEEP IN MIND OUR STOPS AND VISITS ALONG THE WAY!!!!!

P.S. We will have a 1 1/2 year old. So stops will be needed!

THANK YOU!!!!!!

What kinds of things do you consider memorable? Things like Gettysburg, site of the historic battle during the Civil War and Lincoln speech or places for the baby to run around and play or nice shopping malls?

What route do you plan to take and what part of South Carolina will you wind up in?

You need to think about how long you want to spend at stops and depending on the route and stop times the number of days you need for the trip there (and back?) will be very different.

Hopefully your baby will sleep for much of your drive time, so perhaps making a plan that includes nap or bed time for the drives will determine where you stop.

I agree that we don't know enough about what you like, but here are some things to think about.

Buy gas in Jersey, Virginia and South Carolina. You will cry when you get home to CT.

Consider taking the ferry from Cape May, NJ, to Lewes, DE at least one way. You can stop for a night at the Shore -- possibly Cape May itself. The ferry is fun. You could then stop for another beach night at Rehoboth Beach, DE or Ocean City, MD or Virginia Beach, VA. You will need reservations for the ferry and in all these towns.

If you go South via DC on I-95, you need to get to the I-95 I-495 Junction by 3 PM or it will be along ride. It is a very long ride from the last rest stop in Maryland to the first accessible rest stop in Virginia near Fredericksburg. There are no easy-off/easy-on fast food places the entire two hours or so.

Another fun overnight for your 2 1/2 year old ( a year from now) might be the Wolf Trap water park hotel in Williamsburg, VA.

It's Great Wolf Lodge, not Wolf Trap (just for clarification for her search).

Thanks, Janet.

They might be surprised to wind up at a classical music concert under the stars!

By the way, we are heading to Richmond in a few weeks for Oystoberfest at St Thomas Episcopal Church and for Virginia Opera. Lots of new Peter Chang and other venues to check out. Our big seasonal move doesn't come until New Years.

The OP needs to come back and answer some questions. A trip to Spartanburg or Columbia would involve a very different route/sites/stops than one to Myrtle beach etc.

Acki....we had a good dinner last week at Shagbark, but if you go be aware that the kitchen is slow.

Ummm please don't ask us for pit stops just to check off a state!! There are adequate places all along the interstate--the south has really come a long way. LOL
WHERE in SC are you going to be AT this wedding. As said, it do make a difference.

To OP - You can find out what "pit stop" services are available at every EXIT along I-95 here: http://www.i95exitguide.com
