CT to Jersey City
I'll be driving from CT to Jersey City on a Thursday afternoon. Any recommendations for the most hassle-free route? I hope to arrive in Jersey City by 3ish.
Thanks! |
Where do you leave from in Connecticut?
|
Your most direct route is across the GW Bridge, then follow NJ Turnpike S to Jersey City.
The second route would be I287 across the Tappan Zee bridge, then S on the Garden State Parkway to Exit 163, Rt 17 S t Rt 80 E to NJ Turnpike - much more round about way. How you get to GWB from CT depends from where you are starting, as HR points out. If you are starting out close to I95 in CT, then the only realistic route is to follow I95 straight across the GWB. If you are further north in CT, then you can cut across Westchester to I87/NYS Thruway then approach the GWB from the North. If you are in Southern CT you will either follow I-95 straight across the Bridge, or Take I287 |
Probably starting from 82 - prefer to avoid 95
|
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what 82 means. If you give us your starting point we can help.
|
Meant 84 - surely you could have guessed that there was a typo.
|
I-84 runs a hundred some miles from one end of CT to the other. That's as useless an answer as one can get.
How would anyone knows what you mean by 82? As no one here would have guess you're trying to give "I-84" as a valid answer anyways. |
Or maybe "84" means something else...
|
Let's try to be nice....please don't post a response if you can't be helpful.
|
Okay, let's try again.
I'll repeat the very first response you got: "Where do you leave from in Connecticut?" Just say what town/city will be fine. We're all trying to help. Let us help you. We can't help you with answeres like "82" or "84". |
At that time of day, I think you'd be fine cutting through the city which is in fact the most direct route between CT and Jersey City.
I'd take the West Side Highway to either the Lincoln or Holland Tunnel. Personally, I'd opt for the Lincoln Tunnel and cut across Hoboken to Jersey City. While the Holland Tunnel empties into Jersey City, the access to the tunnel on the Manhattan side is more difficult than it is at the Lincoln Tunnel. If taking the latter, you get off at the first exit - Hoboken. Depending on where you're going in Jersey City, you either go through Hoboken to the Newport area of JC or up the 14th street viaduct in Hoboken to the Heights section of JC. |
Thanks for everyone's help. Ended up staying in Manhattan so took 95 all the way into the Bronx. No real problems except for some minor traffic once we switched to the 278 to the Triboro
