Cross Country Trip OR-PA

I'm moving from coastal Oregon to Philadelphia. I'm going to be driving (2 weeks time limit) and I'd love to see some cool sites and eat at tasty/unique random restaurants. Does anybody have any suggestions? While I'm not stuck on a particular route, I've driven through Texas numerous times and don't want to do more than absolutely necessary.

Also I'll have my two bikes (road/mountain) with me and I'm sorta worried about really touristy areas where it wouldn't be wise to leave them on my car unattended.

April? December?

Go by way of Kansas City (BBQ) and St. Louis (see the arch).
This avoids going through Chicago.

Time of year does matter but I would assume it's relatively soon?

If you're going early to mid-May (or later) I would check on the status of roads in Yellowstone and try to go through the park. Then head east to the Black Hills in South Dakota.

If you are going earlier than that, head south and visit some of the parks in southern Utah. It would still be beautiful in April and you can find some great trails for your mountain bike around Moab.

I would be less concerned about touristy areas than urban areas when it comes to leaving your bikes unattended.

I'll be leaving in late May/ early June. It's been awhile since Kansas City (and I love BBQ :-)

I've never been to the Black Hills of SD. That'll be on the list, thank you!

As far as mountain biking, I probably won't be doing too much riding on the trip. Riding alone isn't my idea of fun or safe. My bike would be fine but I might break ;-)
