Crested Butte lodging suggestions...summer

Going to Palisade for a few days with friends to check out the local wine scene (I'm not terribly optimistic).

Thought we'd tack on a few days in Crested Butte for a bit of hiking and gazing at the scenery.

Any accommodation suggestions? $100-150 range. Leaning towards staying in town, but seems most lodging is closer to the slopes - not that it really matters.

Off season I like in town better as we can walk to restaurants, grocery and the shops. There is a shuttle that runs from Mt. Crested Butte to town so you can take advantage of that if you pick a rental by the slopes.

You didn't mention when you are going so here is the website to check schedules for the shuttle:

Thanks Beachgirl.

Going next weekend. Will have a car, so I assume shuttle not necessary?

I've been looking at a couple of B&Bs as town seemed to make more sense in summer, even though we're there to hike.

Just learned that Kebler Pass is closed due to road damage, which sort of puts a spanner in the works.

It's only a 10-minute drive from one to the other in summer if that -- very close to each other. Just googled and it's 4 miles. Having a car makes either location doable.

Hope you have good hiking while there. We're heading to Aspen the following week and I'm sure we'll encounter some patches of snow here and there along the way.

Anxious to hear about Kebler Pass and when it will be open.

Too bad about Kebler Pass. If you still go and find a good place to stay in town, I'd like to hear about it. When we went in the fall two years ago we stayed in Mt. Crested Butte and took the shuttle into town. I'm glad we used the shuttle because we really enjoyed our stop at Montanya Distillers.

Thanks again Beachgirl.

Will do wtm003. I already had Montanya Distillers on my list, so good to hear you liked it.

Kebler Pass is closed until further notice due to some significant road damage.

Story and photos here for any interested:

We'll probably still go - will be in the area anyway (sort of). Just need to take the plunge and book something.

wtm003 -

Have just booked Purple Mountain B&B on Gothic Ave for two nights. Good reviews. Fingers crossed. Will try to remember to post our impressions when we get back.

wtm003 -

Just back from Crested Butte - Purple Mountain B&B was lovely - located in an old creaky house on Gothic - full of character:) - a short walk to Elk Street restaurants. Fantastic cooked breakfast each morning, allergies/intolerances well catered for. Dog friendly. Microbrew beer tasting each night at 5 pm - lovely host Chris.
