Crested Butte in June

Would route 135 into Crested Butte be considered difficult driving? Is it a high, narrow road with hairpin turns, or is it pretty easy to drive? We always like to know what we may expect when visiting a new location. Thanks for all advice.

It is easy - no problems.

Thanks, fmpden and DebitNM ! Debit, that's about as precise as an answer can get. Wow! May I assume the last village shown on that reel is the village of Crested Butte? It is not as I had imagined it.

DebitNM Nov 10th, 2017 12:17 PM

To be honest, I didn't watch the whole thing.

My mistake, Debit. I just noticed that the film begins in Crested Butte. That looks like what I expected for CB, a very attractive little village. Thanks!

That is is cool link Deb, they've got all kinds of videos including Trail Ridge Road and the Beartooth highway for people who want to know what those are about.

meggies, I didn't watch it all, but at 0:38 they pull over on Crested's main drag next to a bar. On the next block, on the left, is "The Secret Stash", a local pizza joint. It's a minor institution in town and worth a look.

Crested Butte is a great place to visit. Be prepared for possible cold weather in June. It's not entirely summertime yet in the Rockies. Low 80s during the day, 30s-40s at night.

Thanks, Nelson and Mo!
Nelson, I noticed as well they pulled over at a place called "The Last Steep" that I had seen in a list of restaurants. Would you advise we try that as well? We will put the Secret Stash on our list!

Nelson Nov 13th, 2017 06:03 AM

meggies, it's possible that we went into The Last Steep, but I don't recall so can't give advice there.

In 2005 The Secret Stash used to be in a little tiny building at the edge of town. We were there that August (hurricane Katrina was happening) and it could take an hour to get seated. They were always packed. Still, we went back a time or two. They moved to the new building by 2010 or so and were still always packed.

Kind of like the Rio in Fort Collins when they moved from their original tiny joint to a much larger space. The crowd didn't seem to thin out at all.

We were last in CB in September of 2014. The Stash was still a popular place. Good food, cheap.

Have fun in your planning.

Thank you, Nelson!

I tried to reply days ago. We've had a place in CB for 20 years so feel free to email me at my screen name at yahoo.com

We really like The Last Steep for a casual lunch. Our favorite dinner restaurant is Lil's. we also like Ryce but only in the restaurant not for takeout.

Thank you, williamscb! We will write The Last Steep, Lil's and Ryce on our list as well.
