cozy in NC mountain lodge or hiking in Grand Canyon?

My hubby and I are wanting to get away somewhere in the middle of October. We live in Minnesota. I can't decide what to do...... do I have time to figure out a 4 day Grand Canyon adventure or should we just be bums and enjoy an easy lodge vacation enjoying the beautiful mountains in NC?

I've done both. You can't go wrong with either. It can get cold at GC in October. Your only problem with NC may be finding lodging-it's chief leaf-peeping season. It may be booked. Have fun.

October is prime hiking season at the Grand Canyon, so you may have difficulty finding lodging there too. I just checked th ewebsites for both North Rim (only open until Oct. 15) and South Rim (open all year) and they bot hlook pretty well sold out.

But it is well worth it to stay inside the park, so I'd give Xanterra a call for lodging at the South Rim:

888.297.2757

Sometimes they have cancellations that don't show up on the website.

The Grand Canyon is absolutely gorgeous and you must see it once in your life. But, the North Carolina mountains im partial to. Especially the Smokies. So, if you choose NC, don't miss the Smoky Mountains National Park.

I would imagine finding a place to stay will be a challenge in either locale. That may well be the determining factor.
