Courtyard by Marriott Midtown East
 

Has anyone stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Midtown East? I think it's located at 49th and 3rd. Can you please share any experiences you had at this hotel?

Are there any restaurants in that area that you could recommend, including any cheap and cheerful breakfast spots? Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

51st and 3rd. Stayed there last month. No complaints, room quite large by NY standards, usual amenities. Excellent location, close to lots of things - walk to MOMA, subway a block away. Not much in the way of restaurants in the hotel (one serving okay looking breakfast, maybe lunch, but not dinner IIRC.)

Our fave deli in NY is a 15 min. walk - Sarge's on 3rd at 37th (24/7); otherwise there are gazillions of places walkable.

Ess-A-Bagel is across the street on 3rd b/w 50-51 st considered by many as the best bagels in the city. Lots of good restaurants in the area. La Mediteranee (2nd b/w 50-51) and Le Mangeoire (2nd 53-54 st) both good French and good prix fixe dinners (early I think). PJ Clarke on 3rd & 55 st. historic NY saloon with good burgers etc.

When I stayed there a couple of years ago, I bought coffee and a muffin from a guy with a cart across the street from the hotel, for $1.

Loved the hotel, excellent staff, nicely furnished, brought a mini-fridge up to my room immediately upon request. I got a great buy through Priceline, which rated it just 2.5* because they require a full-service restaurant (and room service, I think) in order for a hotel to get 3*.

Ess-A-Bagel has very good bagels but lousy coffee, and it is a very busy place, if you are stopping in to get something to go - fine, but if you were thinking of a quiet leisurely breakfast, this isn't the place. You might want to check out Midtown restaurant on 55th bwtn. 3rd & Lex. Extensive menu and reasonably priced.

When we want something more than bagels and coffee, is there a place nearby for a bacon and eggs for breakfast-something clean, fast and not as expensive as hotel restauants? Usually we go to the Olympia (on 8th and 48th, I think), when we stay closer to Times Square and I would recommend that restaurant to anyone for the kind of breakfast I described. We're travelling with an older teenager, so I'm also looking for dinner spots that have his favorites like burgers and steak, lower price range than Smith and Wollensky-PJ's Pub sounds like a good idea. When we need a break from my son we'll try one of the French ones that mclaurie mentioned. Any other suggestions in the area?

Can anyone tell me about the AC and water pressure in the hotel? Do they work well? Is the AC quiet? How are the elevators?

Just go one block East to 2nd Avenue, tons of pubs, diners and inexpensive restaurants in the East 50's.

Used AC briefly to de-stuffy the room on checkin - seemed okay. Water pressure fine. Elevators average (IIRC they are zoned.)

Madison Coffee Shop on corner of First and 53rd is reliable for all meals including breakfast. In general the area is not great for moderately priced quality dining but you are right near two subway stops.

Monique when you want something more than a bagel & coffee along with what has already been suggested you can try Midtown Restaurant on 55th bwtn. 3rd & Lex. Extensive menu and reasonably priced. Have fun!
