Couple trip to NY -- too much free time?

OK, we found a sitter for the kids and are going to NYC for the first trip together since I was pregnant in early 1998. Want to see if my itinerary makes sense. We arrive early on a red eye Thursday morning. I figured we'd drop our bags and go to Ground Zero. Then head back uptown and shop in Soho, see a gallery or two in Chelsea. Have lunch. We have 3:30 MOMA tickets and a dinner reservation. Then Friday I left open to Christmas shop and we're meeting friends for dinner. Saturday, meeting another friend, more shopping and a late dinner at Lupa, home Sunday. I know it sounds like a lot of shopping but we really like walking around the city and hanging out. Am I kidding myself by not planning another activity, or does it seem right to be a little open-ended? I guess it's a matter of opinion but I'm curious what everyone thinks. Thanks.

I think your plan is just fine. I live here, and still enjoy wandering around the city and exploring new neighborhoods, checking out new restaurants, etc.

Enjoy!

I think you have way more than enough planned for a weekend. You might want to save the galleries for Saturday. Don't know where you're staying but if you're on the UWS you may want to pop into the Mus. of Nat. History and take a look at their Christmas tree.

I think your plan sounds perfect.

Most visitors to NYC way overplan and find themselves exhausted and overwhelmed.

Don't worry, you'll still find yourself running non stop.

I think it sounds wonderful.

My only comment would be that Ground Zero isn't much. It's a construction site and there isn't much--beyond vendors--that commemorates the experience or meaning.

This response may be too late, but I just wanted to add that I think you can never have too much free time in NYC! Keep in mind that as you're there, something may catch your eye- an ad in the paper, a display outside a museum, etc. There are SO many events to choose from, you never quite know what will strike you :)

Have a great time!
