Country/Farm or B&B stay outside Chicago

Jump to last reply

Hi there, my husband and I are crossing the States on our way to NYC and will be flying Flagstaff to Chicago after visiting the GC. Besides spending a few days in downtown Chicago I thought it would be lovely to see some American countryside and stay on a farm or a country B&B just outside Chicago. Can anyone recommend which direction to search for this type of experience, I would really love to see some American barns (We are coming from Australia) so would love an authentic American experience. Also what is the driving like outside of Chicago and would it be possible to reach a lovely destination by train? Any beautiful weekend experiences with nature I would be interested in, and we both like antiques/old treasure shops etc. Thanks so much for any suggestions
