Cottage rental coast or Virginia or Carolinas

This summer I would like to rent a cottage/small house for one week on a beach in either Virginia, North Carolina or South Carolina. But I have no idea where to begin as I haven't been to any of these places. Can someone suggest an area to begin looking? I would also consider a motel/hotel with full kitchen as long as the room held 6 people. I am looking for a beach that is not honkytonk/boardwalk/high rise hotels/built up (but one that is in driving distance to restaurants, stores, theaters, etc.) Thanks!

You had better get a moving. A lot of the beach rentals start booking up early.

I would recommend the Outer Banks of NC. Google outer banks rentals for a start and pick a realter. I would look at the Duck/Corolla areas. ((b))

I recommend Seabrook Island, which is about 40 minutes south of Charleston, SC. It is private and very quiet. There are restaurants and shopping close and you can drive to Charleston as well.

There are plenty of private houses and condos to rent. Check out Dunes Properties for rentals.

Also, this past summer we went to Holden Beach in NC. It is between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Very quiet as well. We used VRBO website to rent a house there.

Sunset beach nc is quiet and is about 45 min north of myrtle beach.

In Virginia, Sandbridge is a quiet beach that is about 15 min from the boardwalk of Virginia beach.

What is your budget? What you are asking for will run you anywhere from $750 to $15,000+ per week.

mmouse, you may want to brush up on your geography.

Nags Head is in another state. It is in North Carolina.

I would try Kiawah Island in S.C. It's close enough to Charleston for day trips in and is just beautiful. We've vacationed on Corolla in the Outer Banks and found it very crowded. Also, alot of Virginia's beaches are very built up with boardwalk/high rise type areas. Kiawah has a wide choice of rentals, nice beaches, bike riding and great golf.Good Luck.

kim, fyi Seabrook and Kiawah are right next to each other. Either is a good choice. Each is a private island but you can get a pass to eat/shop on either at the guard station. So, if you stay on one island you will still be able to experience the other.

Seabrook is quieter, more residental so less people on the beach. Kiawah is more "touristy" but still no where close to the Outer Banks or Myrtle Beach.

I do know nags head is in North Carolina but I have South Carolina on my mind because we are renting a house on Hilton Head in April.

We used Emerald Isle Realty one year for an off season rental. They represent lots of properties in the area in all sizes and distance from the beach. We were about a block from the beach in a quiet residential area. Lots of homes but miles of beach. Google vacation home rental + NC (or SC) and you should find a variety of agencies. It was actually hard to find something smaller than 4 bedroom which is what we ended up going with. Great to have both a deck and a screen porch. The agency also rented bed linens and the home was well stocked with dishes, etc.

I've been going to Topsail Island, NC for forty years. It is a quiet beach resort and is half an hour northeast of Wilmington. The best rental companies are Century 21-Action, Ward's and Bryson and Associates. All three have web sites. I would get down pretty soon as the best cottages get filled up pretty quickly.
