looking for a good place to stay w/ our 2 "kids" 22 & 19 for a beach vacation in south carolina

Don't know what kind of cottage you want, but we love Hilton Head and have stayed at several condos there. Just about everything is near the beach and you can ride bikes everywhere. We have stayed in the Shipyard Plantation and Sea Pines.

What do you want? Just beach time or lots of activities? There are many very different beaches in SC. We can help you a little better if we know what interests you.

What does "near" the beach mean?

This is hilarious. Dude, choose an "area" at least. \
Hilton Head is the MOST sterile beach in the world. My opinion.
Near? Who knows.

58smom, we didn't mean to scare you away. Just tell us a little more about what kind of beach, type of accomodation (house, condo, resort, etc) and your budget, and we'll be able to help more.

All of the South Carolina beaches, from Hilton Head to North Myrtle Beach, offer vacation rental accommodations that would suit your needs.

Some of SC's more remote and rural beaches are very nature and sports oriented, with little commercial development and few additional amusements beyond the beach environment itself. Other beaches other offer tons of evening activities, like concerts, mini-golf, and nightclubs. Still more beaches are somewhere in between the other two categories.

We can help you better if you let us know what sort of activities you enjoy when on a beach vacation.

We enjoy less "touristy" type areas. Looking to rent a comfortable cottage. Enjoy exploring, bike riding and hiking. Not really looking to hang out at a beach all the time but definetly don't want to be playing puttputt golf. Like to have access to good local fare. Thanks for your posts, hit the wrong button when I went to review my post and didn't know how to "add to" my post w/ additional info. My kids are pretty laid back and enjoy a variety of activities.

Not to steal Kiawahs thunder but Kiawah may be a good choice. You can couple that in w/a visit to Charleston & the Plantations as well, if you have that interest. I always use vrbo.com.

@58smom--If you are really not into "touristy," Kiawah and Seabrook Islands are good choices. No putt-putt any where in sight:-)

Over the years, my first-time guests to Seabrook ask me, "what do you do in Charleston? What do you do...?" Our family gets on island and hardly ever leaves except for replenishing food and drink. One of my guest emailed me after her second day proclaiming the itinerary she had created was out the window. Her four children wanted to stay on island!

Kiawah and Seabrook both offer a chance to breathe, let your hair down, and really escape from the fast paced life we live every day. You can do as little or as much as you and your family desire.
