Good wine at Walmart? Hate to tell you, but the sweet crap that comes in boxes with a spigot is not what wine aficianados look for in their definition of "a good wine".

Monica Aug 30th, 2002 01:25 PM

Sam, read the post you're replying too. She said Costco had good wines, and they do. They have actually hired a very knowledgeable wine buyer and have some very exclusive selections available. In standard bottles.

Costco sells more wine than any other retailer in the US. Not all of it comes in a box. I recently purchased some vintage Mondavi Cabs and Marham Merlots at about a 25% saving over my local wine merchant

We don't have Costco where we live-does it require a membership to shop there? Is the Walmart one with a grocery? We have to stop for stuff somewhere-and they will probably have a better selection than a 7-11

Costco is a membership warehouse so I don't know if you will be able to shop there or not. I would call and inquire about the possibility of getting a one day pass. I know we get one day passes for Sam's Club frequently in the mail, not sure if Costco has the same. Also if you receive a Costco gift certificate, you can shop at Costco without a membership. So if someone who is a Costco member buys a gift certificate for you, you don't need a membership to use it - not a convenient option though. I've never stopped at Walmart so don't know if it has groceries or not.

Only a select group of Walmarts have an extended food section.

When I went to maui <BR>i figured out that it cost about $24 per hour to stay there for 2 people. If you want bargins go to the Jersey Shore.

No matter where you are, Walmart and Costco are always a good place to go. If you are staying a week or more I say go. It's your time and your money. So what if you spend a little extra time at the store you are still going to save. Buy your diapers and spend your time your way. As a matter of fact I am on my way to Walmart right now, in Maui. I don't have a problem with it. Oh yeah, we are having a ball.

You're having such a great time in Maui that you had to dig up a nine year old thread to tell us all how great Walmart and Costco are???

ama22 Aug 3rd, 2011 10:38 AM

We are staying a month on Maui and I think going to Costco is a really good idea, even if you just buy a case of soda. I will probably be cooking quite a bit, so the steaks and ground beef is a good bargain, at least here in Chicago it is.
Why do people on this forum have to put down others just because they happen to ask a question? Shame on you who do it.

POG with rum! POG with vodka! POG with tequila (try it)! POG with ice!
This is an old thread; are those children of legal drinking age yet?!

lizls, you might try starting a new thread to ask your questions.
