Costanoa in Pescadero
Anyone been there? How was the experience?
|
We were there two years ago. It is very expensive, but there is a rate reduction at end of Autumn, so we decided to try it out. My impression, forget it. The "room" is a tent cabin. The place is tiny, bed is comfortable, though. It was so windy, we thought the tent was going to blow down. Bathrooms and showers are community style. This place just didn't do it for me. For the price, I would rather stay in a 4-5 star hotel. If it's nature you want, there are alot of other places to find that along the San Mateo Coast or Coastal Redwoods.

Carolyn, thanks for your comments. We are thinking of the canvas tent cabins that sleep four for two adults and two kids. It's $60 per night, which seems affordable to me, not the cost of a 4 or 5 star. Is breakfast included? The weather is a concern though. We're planning on August, midweek. I know right now it's pretty foggy over there. Does it seem like a good place for kids? Carolyn or anyone else with feedback, please. Thanks!

$60 a night seems high for a tent cabin, but summer rates in the area are very high in general. I know a family that owns a National 9 motel in Santa Cruz. National 9 is a bare bones, no frills kind of place and 10 years ago I think the rooms went for about $100/night during the summer.

I've never been to Costanoa, but the area is great. There are several state parks very close plus the beach. Your kids should have a great time - hiking, wandering along the beach, and so on.

In August, there is generally fog everyday which burns off about 11 or 12 and comes back about 5 in the afternoon, so you should get some hours of sumshine. It's really nice to sit on the cliffs and watch the fog come in in the afternoons.

My family stayed there last summer and we enjoyed it.We pitched our own tent for $30 a night. It was ok but you couldn't cook or have fire at night at your sight. There is an area were you can bar-b-que at which was fine. There are alot of paved trails biking or scooter riding..They also have alot of activities and nature hikes. The restaurant was good. The "comfort stations" were very nice and clean. I'd say it is worth going to. Bring bug spray (lots of ticks) and a flashlight.

We spent a night in one of the canvas tent cabins last spring. It is a unique place and was a memorable experience for us. I liked the fact that they had such varied accomodations that you could stay there on any budget. We liked the down comforters in the canvas tent cabins. I agree with Jeanne that the "comfort stations" are clean and well-maintained. I felt that the whole place was very tastefully designed and encouraged you to enjoy the natural beauty all around. You can take a short hike from the property and walk on a trail along the bluffs above the ocean. We saw elephant seals on the beach. Breakfast is included with some of the room types. Although you don't have all the conveniences of a hotel, I would definitely recommend it.

I stayed in the lodge with balcony, fireplace and large tub. No TV/Radio, sattelite music only, which I loved. Cont.Breakfast in the general store. The room was very comfortable and the balcony pleasant. Security it very bad. The barbecue area is just under the balcony which was terrible, smoke and people below may as well have been in my room, as the sound is amplified in that corner. Housekeeping/maintenance should have been better. I wrote to president but havent been back to know if it is improved. I found the 'idea' offering something for everyone exceptional, and the tents are fabulous for a tent experence, the 'Comfort Stations' we the cleanest and best I personally, have ever seen. I loved Costanoa and location, wish I managed, I'd make a few adjustments.
