Has anyone stayed at the Mariott - how wold it compare to the Del?

Hi, we stayed at the Coronado Marriott in June of 2003. I was totally pleased with our choice to stay on Coronado. We were upgraded to a "villa" (don't ask me why) which I liked so much better than being in the main building. We could exit our room and cross the lawn where we had an awesome view of downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bridge and we had our own patio with easy chairs. They have a water taxi that takes you to S.D. And there are several great waterfront restaurants within a 10 minute walk.

How does it compare to the Del? The Del is right on the beach (although when we were there the beach was closed). It is definitely more of a resort atmosphere and it is closer to town. I walked all over the island from the Marriott too, but downtown is quite a jaunt on foot. If you can get a comparable price, I would advise the Del over the Marriott.
