Corolla, North Carolina
Planning our week in Corolla. Family of 4 with two teenage boys. We have never been to this area before. We fly in/out of Norfolk.
Looking for suggestions on things to do. We enjoy out door activities but also interested in 'must see' museums/historical sites would be good to. And places for 'good eats'. Thank you! |
I'll simply point out what for many would probably seem obvious: the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills.
If you fancy a drive along the National Seashore itself you might consider driving as far down as Buxton for the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Jockey's Ridge might be a consideration for sand boarding and hang gliding. Food I'll leave to others since what you think is "good" I can only guess at. |
Great ideas. Thank you.

Since we visited Corolla many years ago I am loathe to offer specific advice, except for the following. I became addicted to Eastern NC vinegar-based BBQ while we were down there. So give it a go.

Thank you. We love midwest BBQ so that will be something to try!

Corolla for me is all about the beaches and biking--I've generally been there with young children--but the "Lost Colony" of Roanoake play is worth it for the kitsch factor, at the least. thelostcolony.org
Touring the lighthouses is nice and mellow, and of course the wild horse tours are special to the area. (The horses used to be everywhere or anywhere back in the day, but now are in 4WD country.) Oh, and Duck Donuts are a bit of a tradition. |
Be aware of the Lost Colony schedule since it does not run for the entire summer.
