Corning/Cooperstown

Need any lodging/restaurants recommendation, please. We are going on a road trip this weekend from NYC to Corning and then over to Cooperstown with myself, my husband and my two boys - 8 & 10. I was thinking of leaving NYC at 9:00AM and driving directly to Corning. Would need a restaurant in Corning to lunch and then we would visit the Corning Glass Works Museum. I was thinking of then driving over to Cooperstown. We would need lodging for Friday and Saturday evening along with restaurants. Initially, I was thinking that a hotel with an indoor pool would be great for the kids. The Best Western has a bad review - as recently as January. I would just like to make sure the place is nice and, especially, clean!. The Rose and Thistle B&B has a room which would provide us with a whole floor for our family. The American Hotel is Sharon Springs sounds great. Decisions, decisions. . .HELP!

We stayed at the Radisson in Corning last summer & it was fine. The location was about 2 blocks from the Corning Museum. The Corning Museum was great - my daughter loved making some kind of glass picture frame there (there was a small additional charge).

We (two adult and two kids, 6 and 11)stayed at the Cooper Inn last March. We had a two bedroom suite. It was reasonable and walking distance to the museum. No pool, but we managed.
If you are interested in glass AT ALL you need to allocate plenty of time for the Corning museum. Simply amazing - one of the best museums of any kind we've ever seen. We only had an afternoon to spend, and ended up wishing we'd had a full day or even longer.

The premier hotel in Cooperstown is the Otesaga. Unfortunately it is closed until April. I believe, however that its restaurant is open. It is worth checking out.

We were in Cooperstown about a year ago, and, for what it's worth, the Best Western looked bad from the outside, run down. The Otesaga looked awesome, a big resort. We stayed at the Inn at Cooperstown and liked it very much. We were generally very pleasantly surprised by how charming Cooperstown is, and by how many really good restaurants it had to offer. There is also a working farm/village type of outdoor museum across from the Fenimore Museum your kids would probably like.

Yes, the Cooper Inn is affiliated with the Ostega. The Inn at Cooperstown is across the street. They are both fine.

I have a vacation home near Corning. Drive down the main block downtown. There is a great brewery/restaurant near the sqare that serves all sorts of food--pastas, burgers for the kids, great beer. I am forgetting the name but I go there when I am in town.

I also second the Radisson.

You may find that your sons will want to spend less time at Baseball HOF than you would think. We are all big baseball fans, but when we took our kids, there was only so much time they wanted to spend looking at plaques, equipment, etc. from each inducted player. Not that you shouldn't go, but with kids that age it is not al all-day experience.

If you have some extra time, we were very surprised that the Farmer's Museum was actually interesting - we all enjoyed it!

The name of the restaurant/brewing company in Corning is the Market Street Brewing Company and it is very good.
