Coos Bay to Roseburg
 

I'm looking for suggestions for sights/activities/tourist traps between Coos Bay and Roseburg.

We'll be departing Coos Bay in the morning and staying in Roseburg that night.

We'll be visiting the Wildlife Safari the following morning so am looknig for suggestions for the previous afternoon.

Oh, how fun! Our kids grew up going to Wildlife Safari every summer on our annual trips to the Oregon Coast. Great fun! :)

btw, we have a 2.5 yr old, so he may not have the patience for a winery.

Frankly, Lizzard, there isn't much on the route between these two cities besides Wildlife Safari. You might be better off taking a slight detour south to visit Bandon and then cut over to the road to Roseburg. The trip between Coos Bay and Roseburg only takes two hours at the most.

how about within an hour of Roseburg (not necessarily on the road between Coos Bay and Roseburg)?

Why not just explore along the coast north or south from Coos Bay and then drive over to Roseburg in the late afternoon/early evening?

Bandon, Port Orford, Glod Beach or any of the many state parks along there are well worth the time. Or if you have already come from the south - then Oregon Dunes, Florence or other places to the north are good.

Chiming in from Sydney tonight -

SR 38 between Reedsport and I-5 (around Drain) is by far the most scenic road through the coast mountains. Whatever else you plan, use that route.

I like janis's suggestion to go north (how'd your son like a dune buggy ride?), then to Roseburg via Gardyloo's suggested route along the Umpqua river to I-5.

When I read "tourist traps" the first thing I thought of was Prehistoric Gardens near Port Orford, where we used to stop often when I was a kid. Your son might actually get a kick out of it. http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~mharrsc...cgardens1.html.

Yup, very cheesey ***kim***, hence my connection to lizzard's tourist trap comment. Cheesey as it is though, I know a lot of kids who get a kick out of dinosaurs. Your's are probably too old to have seen Barney.
