Cooperstown- Baseball Hall of Fame

We will be visiting Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame with my husband, two kids (5 and 2), and my parents, including my baseball fanatic father. I am trying to see if anyone has any must dos. We will most likely need a place to eat and anything else we just can't miss other than the museum itself. Thanks!! We are going to Oneonta for a wedding so we only have one day to dedicate to Cooperstown.

Also, looking for kid friendly (possible hikes or other outdoor views) and restaurants in Oneonta for the morning before the welcome dinner,

Take the short walk to the Otesaga Hotel on Otesego Lake. The views are stunning. It's easy to miss if your focus is on the small Cooperstown downtown.

There's the Farmer Museum near Cooperstown, barnyard animals and a merry-go-round, perfect for kids that age.

We liked the Cooperstown Diner, and Yellow Deli in Oneonta is supposed to serve up a great breakfast.

The kids are going to be bored out of their brains watching Grandpa stare at bats and jerseys in glass cases. I am a big baseball fan, but a few hours was more than enough. I respect the history and stars of the game, but seeing this sort of thing got old really fast.

What are your and your Mom's thoughts on baseball. I might suggest your husband and father go to HOF and you and Mom take the kids to the Farmer's Museum, which is actually really good.

I go to the HOF every year. It generally takes 3-4 hours to get through it each time. They are doing a lot of renovating right now and changing exhibits. I agree the kids will not enjoy it that much and second the Farmer's Museum for them / find a spot on the lake for a picnic. I usually eat at Doubleday Café on Main St after the HOF.

There is a mini golf course just south of Cooperstown you could stop at after the HOF (http://barnyardswing.com/)

If you have more free time in Oneonta, there is a great car museum not far away (https://www.classiccarmuseum.org/) that is worth a few hours.

I couldn't agree more.

I go to Cooperstown for Glimmerglass Opera and don't give a fig for baseball, but everybody loves the frame museum. See the Thaw American Indian collection across the street as well. It is fantastic.

Thank you for your insight. The farmer museum sounds amazing and we will definitely go depending on time. I have been a lifelong baseball fan and my son has been collecting baseball cards. I also found some activities for my 5 year old to do and my mom and daughter can visit the kids area. I also heard there is an outdoor field to play and picnic. Thanks again!

No one has mentioned Fenmore Museum in Cooperstown which has Gramma Moses and other American primitive but also more excellent art...including traveling exhibits. There are activities for children.

We explored the lovely area...and I did spend time in the Baseball Hall of Fame which I did like.

There's a lake cruise that makes a loop from the docks just a few blocks from the HOF... great for the kids... I believe it is glimmerglass tours...

I don't think your mom will like the kids area, I know I hated it when I was visiting.
