Cookware shop
Hi all,
I need help with my ailing memory again! I was in NYC last year and went to a cookware shop that sells all types of baking things. They have a reputation of their staff being somewhat gruff (not my opinion but what I had read on line) and I can't remember exactly where it is. It was somewhere around 23rd and 6th I think. It is full of cooking cutters, icing sets, moulds etc etc. To me it looked like a treasure trove. Anyone know where I mean? Thanks. |

One of the best-known places of this kind is Broadway Panhandler in NoHo on 8th Street just east of University Place. The other well-known place, Bridge Kitchenware, has moved out here to New Jersey from Third Avenue in the 40s.

bspielman - Broadway Panhandler has all sorts of cooking items including a baking section. The store mentioned above is nothing like that. It's very large and very old and only has things that pertain to baking - some quite obscure. It is not particularly upscale, but has some things that are not found elsewhere. I buy old fashioned white cake boxes there so I can transport a cake easily to someone's house. They have zillions of things, mostly low tech. And the service can be gruff or at the very least without any warmth at all.

CPG: Point taken, but the OP did ask about a cookware shop that sells baking goods, not a bakeware shop.

bspielman - op also said around 23rd and 6th!

Thanks for the info. Actually anything to do with baking, cooking, cookware etc I am interested in, I can spend hours just browsing. NY Cake & Baking I'm pretty sure is the one I went to but I will certainly Broadway panhandler on the list.
